But are the thousands of other women performing at her level? She's arguably the greatest female athlete of all time.

I know you're not sexist or a **** poster but that's probably the difference: how good she still is.

Don't forget everyone, she's also playing doubles with Venus.
i also understand the sport you participate in could make a difference as well.

but to answer the question, no not many are/would be performing at her level. but also, 4 weeks ago her level wasnt what it was last night haha

They may be, they just aren't getting the spot light that she is. Is a marathon runner, professional body builder, even an everyday manual laborer performing at high levels but just don't get the attention that she does? I was talking to a woman during a break in interviews where a company was doing mass interviews for several jobs, she had induced labor on a friday night, so she could return to classes on Monday. She never skipped a beat, she seemed nuts, but still did it. That is a crazy level, while not performing on a court in front of thousands of people, she was walking around ISU's campus in the days when they always made you criss cross campus for every class.
Women are incredible. Wife was doing a lap around the hospital floor pushing our newborn 24 hrs after a C Section. Within 48 hrs she was basically back to normal.

And that's fair. Probably has a lot of adrenaline running thru her right now too.
I basically never watch doubles but she's also performed at a high level that way too.

Not exactly sure.

With our last kid, I was ticked at my wife. The C section was planned for later in the day and she demanded to push the envelope to go home. The nurses asked why, but since it fell within the guidelines there was nothing to do. Well, the youngest then developed jaundice and the doctors said that it is a common thing for women who leave early (she could have stretched another day out of it). So we had to go back to the hospital for that

There is plenty of record of the racist abuse she and Venus have endured through the years and they still let a blowhard announcer that had the gall to write an “open letter” denouncing the way the sisters chose to live their lives while playing competitive tennis announce their matches.

Chris Evert can suck a fat one.
Chris Evert was Greg Norman's girlfriend. Sums it up.

i said it was a big deal

but there are thousands of other women who have done the same thing and its not mentioned even once.

they were playing it up for the storyline and its not needed is all.

Part of it is that she had some pretty serious complications after she gave birth.

Honestly we should be celebrating all athletes who compete at the highest levels after giving birth. I don’t think there are as many as you imply at Serena’s level, but even if there are they all deserve recognition.

Saying that other people do it so lets not talk about it is silly. We'd never talk about much because there are few '1st time evers' out there. Serena deserves all the pub she gets in my opinion.

I mostly agree with you. They made a big deal of it with Clisters too. And they do shove you out of a hospital now as fast as they can.
And we do have the highest maternal death rate in the developed world.

The important part with Serena though and I doubt they mentioned (I refuse to listen to Chris Evert and only know her crap last night from her subsequent Twitter trend), is due to her previous clotting problem with her pulmonary embolism, she tends to have clotting issues and had them during childbirth. They had to do emergency surgery afterwards to save her life.
Thanks for the reminder on her scare from childbirth. I forgot about that.

Also, I don't understand Evert's criticism of her not playing in some events, especially when it is an individualized sport. Do most tennis players participate in every event on the tour? So what if she want to take a few events off, especially coming off injury.

Last night's match is the best sporting moment I've seen in the last few months. Awesome to have her playing so well and at the US Open with the crowd firmly behind her. Second to last point was probably the highlight of the match.

Next opponent looks beatable. I'm excited to see how far this goes.

She almost died during childbirth so it's kind of a big deal.
Honestly the fact that she overcame the blood clot thing during her career and had success is a great accomplishment by itself.

I'm not really a tennis fan but I've been trying to enjoy this moment.
