Same with me/mine from our back yard. This is the first one I took and by far the best. Most ended up being black sky. This was a little after 9:30, yet looks almost like sunrise except for the stars. My pictures a few months ago were much better than what I was able to get last night. Maybe it got better later on.

Had a very strong storm shortly before 9:15 in the Twin Cities. 20 minutes later it had mostly dissipatedMy pictures a few months ago were much better than what I was able to get last night. Maybe it got better later on.
Yep 9-9:20 was the window in my area.Had a very strong storm shortly before 9:15 in the Twin Cities. 20 minutes later it had mostly dissipated
We went to Ada Hayden and got similar picks. Very cool.North of Ames, at the vineyard by Alluvial.
Timing is critical. I got better pictures this time around for sure, but I think there was really only a 20-30 minute window last night where the colors would have been noticeable with the naked eye.

Is it that cool? Camera tricks to make it look MUCH cooler than it actually does.. After seeing the last one and this one, I am 100% unimpressed with this "phenomenon". Over-hyped where reality looks nothing like all the photos posted everywhere.
But I spose that's just my opinion.
Timing is everything. These storms generally don't last more than 15 or so minutes at a time. One can see much more color with the naked eye during these peak times. It really is quite fascinating to see if you happen to catch it at the right timeIs it that cool? Camera tricks to make it look MUCH cooler than it actually does.. Yeah, I still think it's cool. The camera definitely picks up more than the naked eye. But last night's was so powerful you could see a lot just by looking. It didn't happen last night, but it's also really cool to see the lights sort of pulsing in the sky in waves. It just looks so unnatural. Is it that cool?
