The only people who could afford to get drunk at the prices they would charge, can already buy alcohol in the suites and club section. Non factor.
It is amazing how beer goggles open wallets -- damn students are always in my way at the Big XII MBB tourney and we won't price over that. Course all you do is open the fridge as you don't go to games.

Money has never been an object when I'm on a mission to get obliterated.

I'm well aware of the BAC level of most of the fans, but serving alcohol won't decrease that level. I think if most college kids had the opportunity to purchase booze inside the stadium they would, which doesn't give them any time to sober up during the game. I don't think it's much of a reach to expect more fights, swearing, vomit, dui's, conduct un-becoming, ******-bagery etc.

Anyway, I realize this is a lot of money we're talking about, but I'm just not sure if it's actually worth it if we don't absolutely need the cash.

PS, This is coming from someone who on several occasions could have made a serious claim to being the drunkest person in Jack Trice.

Based on the last few years of athletic budgets, I think we do. We operate at something 50% of Texas' athletic budget. Gotta close the gap.

I will get equally dirty looks from my wife for sneaking in a flask full of whiskey vs. buying an $8 beer, so either way I'm fine.

But seriously, sell beer at JTS.

I like a family atmosphere and have always hated the empty 3rd Q seats. My guess is re-entry is over with now but not yet announced ....... about time too.

Id like to see some stats on how many leave and dont reenter. Id wager that a large portion of the empty seats are due to our poorly managed concessions. If you leave after the band plays for a restroom stop and concessions, count on missing most of the 3rd quarter.

Also, i'd wager that most of those that are leaving are in closer lots (where its actually feasible to leave and come back), so that = bigger donors. Not necessarily the best idea to have a policy that most adversely affects your bigger donors.

Right. Because the suites and club section hold less than 1,000 total, and they are the only ones who would be willing to pay for beer. There are certainly no fans sitting in "regular" seats that wouldn't mind having a couple beers during the game without getting plowed and beligerent.

I just don't understand some peoples thought processes.

If we make 500k on booze, it would add 1.2% to our athletic budget.

I hope you are right cuz I don't like the idea but you may want to recheck it. I think the new administration is re-opening the debate. My vote is no booze and no re-entry. I like a family atmosphere and have always hated the empty 3rd Q seats. My guess is re-entry is over with now but not yet announced ....... about time too.

I wouldn't be surprised. Or all that upset. I stay in my seat at halftime and don't leave until the end of the 4th quarter. I've only left 3 or 4 games early in my life, and all but one of those were when I was a student.

I HATE empty seats at the start of the 3rd :realmad:

I hope that re-entry will be put to bed soon, and if alcohol sales is what it takes, then so be it.

However, I think a lot of people leaving and not returning has been to poor performance in recent history, and I think that CPR has put the wheels in motion to produce teams that will be consistently competetive to the point where people won't want to leave at half any longer.

It is as simple and as difficult as that -- be competetive and people will want to be a part of something special!

Maybe they plan to do the endzone and the press box at the same time. Build new suites in endzone, remove some suites from press box and remodel so it can better serve the press.

This is a JP crusade and you can data it all you want.....it won't matter. He put out a clear warning it was coming in each of the last two years.

Fixing the concessions is a completely different issue.

WVU sold beer in their stadium last season so there will be numbers available to see how profitable it was. Their stadium is almost identical to ISUs so the scale would be similar as well. I would be really interested to see how much profit was made. Every 500k to 1 mil is money we didn't already have. It's money that can mean keeping an assistant coach around. It can go towards the SEZ project and other facilities upgrades. Even if it's a small perccentage of the toal budget, it still makes a dent. Heck, 500K can pay for multiple coaches salaries for the non-revenue sports.

Why do you frown on the idea of guaranteed profit for ISU?

Amount of possible revenue pales in comparison to number of idiots that will have to be dealt with so not worth it. Plus, I don't drink beer anymore. Only the hard stuff for me. Rather not deal with the mess it causes (spills, pukers, etc.)

If the data doesnt back it up it is a misguided crusade.

And its not a 'completely different issue'. People complain about reentry because they think that is why there are holes in the crowd after half. If the real reason is because people are up on the concourse in concessions\restroom lines, then its placing the blame in the wrong place to target reentry.

I bet revenue from beer sales could be put towards improving all of the other concessions and improve the whole gameday experience.

UPDATE 2/16/12

UPDATE: Luck to Update WVU Board on 1st Year of Beer Sales

WVU made nearly $520,000 on the beer sales last year.

Luck has estimated that figure could reach as much as $1.2 million, depending on weather, attendance and team performance.

1. Do we really need a bigger press box? I didnt think we needed more suite space (if we do, some could be added in the end zone build)
2. How do you expand the current press box? You have brand new buildings in the way of where you'd put supports for any expansion.

My understanding is press box work was not an "expansion" but rather upgrading of the infrastructure of the existing press box. Could easily be done simultaneously as a SEZ project.

Do you honestly think that people will drink more? That seems pretty naive given the amount of people who are either already drinking in JTS or drink a ton of booze right before entering the stadium.

If they cut re-entry (limiting halftime tailgating) and can afford to police the stands better for drinkers, I think people will actually drink less, but when they do ISU will actually make a profit from it.
