520k in beer sales when this is going on.....

Holgorsen Rips Fan Attendance - West Virginia University Sports News, Scores and Coverage from WVMETRONEWS.COM

Attendance was pretty pathetic at some of their games. The number of tickets sold looked good but the actual butts in the seats wasn't all that great. ISU is coming off record setting attendance numbers so that wouldn't be an issue affecting beer sales like it potentially did at WVU this past season.

Any additional revenue that ISU can generate needs to be given serious consideration. Could their be a slight spike in arrests at games? Maybe. Will there be a need for additional security? Maybe. Will selling beer in the stadium generate more revenue for ISU and the athletic department? Absolutely. Sometimes you have to take the good with the bad.

As far as issues with drunken fans go the best security in place at ISU football games is the fans. If you see people getting out of hand you pull out your cell phone and you call it in. Pretty sure there is a number you can dial for security in JTS. Use it.

I dont relaly care so much if they sell beer in JTS as Ive usually had more than my share before the game...

Having it in Hilton would be amazing to boost crowds.

Amount of possible revenue pales in comparison to number of idiots that will have to be dealt with so not worth it. Plus, I don't drink beer anymore. Only the hard stuff for me. Rather not deal with the mess it causes (spills, pukers, etc.)

Yeah because hard liquor drinkers are much more controlled drunks.

Do you work at the stadium on gamedays?

If the data doesnt back it up it is a misguided crusade.

And its not a 'completely different issue'. People complain about reentry because they think that is why there are holes in the crowd after half. If the real reason is because people are up on the concourse in concessions\restroom lines, then its placing the blame in the wrong place to target reentry.
You could be right -- take it up with JP. How did they handle exits last year -- did JP collect the data?? Did they re-scan the tix when folks left at half?? Upon re-entry??

Still don't think it matters as.... the writing is on the wall

I'd think they'd try open ETOH sales at Hilton before JTS, but just a wild *** guess!!

Do you honestly think that people will drink more? That seems pretty naive given the amount of people who are either already drinking in JTS or drink a ton of booze right before entering the stadium.

I sit in a family section on the West Side. No one is drinking or being a big idiot. These are not students. I don't want the reasonable folks around me turning into a swarm of blathering idiots. 500K is not worth the hassle. I don't see why some have such a crusade for it. If it were $2M or more per year, I'd change my tune. Then the benefit would likely outweigh the inconveniences and potential consequences.

Yes. Making it easier to obtain isn't going to sober the collective crowd up.

People have been saying that for 5 years though. They said it would happen when the sides were done. It hasnt happened, thankfully. I dont leave every game at half (in fact, maybe only for 1-2 games a year). But i think the option should be there.

Maybe you should go to a petting zoo or Disney on Ice if family atmosphere is what you're after. The world doesn't revolve around you.

Never said it did. Why does everyone feel the need to be hammered out of their minds? If you want to do that great, but the rest of us shouldn't have to put up with you. I'm a guy that screams his head off at the games. I get yelled at to sit down for standing. I don't want a petting zoo, but you don't need alcohol to make it a hostile atmosphere for the visiting team. It's a scapegoat for most.

Why do you present it as a decision between 'stone cold sober' fans or 'hammered out of their minds' fans. There is a middle ground there. Quite a few would like to be able to enjoy a beer or two during the game. That isnt 'hammered out of my mind'

So you think the family section that you sit in will turn into a bunch of blathering drunken idiots if they sell $8 beers at JTS?

Do you come from that Footloose town?

Have you watched "Reefer Madness" one too many times? "Beer crazed abandon!" "Women cry for it, men die for it!"

Nothing wrong with that, but there are many that would abuse it if available. Sneak a can or two in with you if you want a beer and are responsible. Most the world does it. I have no problem with it.

Just as long as they dont start managing the amount of tailgate time to promote inside beer sales.. as is done in the NFL.

If these people were disposed to behave that way, they'd be doing it already.

It doesn't sound like you act that much differently at a game than most people who would be buying the beers.

Sneak a can or two in with you if you want a beer and are responsible. Most the world does it. I have no problem with it.

Why not let the university profit off of that can or two, if you have no problem with people responsibly drinking in the stadium?

I think you're just trolling on this issue for the hell of it. I can't imagine that someone would actually be so self absorbed that they would want the university to pass on $500,000 in profit because they don't like the idea of someone else having a few beers and acting like they do. That is not someone who is thinking about the well-being of the University.
