Well, if you compare five people to the eight they calculated for, I guess “nearly half” is how it works.

And what part of “not sure” did you miss?

Have you flown lately? #1 would be, “Not dozens of people in an enclosed space potentially carrying COVID”.

The op has posted asking random cyclone fans to join them in a transit van to Dallas. Overall numbers may be lower but not sure how this option is any safer than going to an airport in the grand scheme of things. If you’re that concerned with covid you’re probably not debating airline vs land jet - You’re driving yourself or staying home

Furthermore - in a non pandemic world how is land jet any more attractive or cost effective than an airline?

Seems like this is comfort/amenities vs time
Some people just like a good road trip. Hang out with your friends while drinking and watching sports for 8 hours. Or deal with going through crowded airports, wearing a mask for 3-4 hours and having to rent a car anyway (gotta factor in that cost as well, unless you can UBER or LYFT). I'd think hard about the landjet option if I were going.

Hey y’all after listening to the latest quarantine podcast it got me wondering if there were any other central Iowa clone fans who were planning on driving to Arlington who would want to look into sharing a LandJet. To be honest I don’t know anything about LandJet but from what Chris says it sounds like a pretty great option.
Now we know what kind of fat cat Chris Williams is. He must be swimming in radio money.

LandJet would have much more room for luggage, coolers, and other tailgate supplies. And you have on-call local transportation.

I hate flying so much I'd definitely consider if the cost is similar.

Who said they calculated for 8? The one guy who emailed for a quote didn't mention if that was for the 5 seat option or the 8 seat option - so I mentioned both in my reply. Regardless, flying is cheaper in either scenario like I said in my initial post..

Funny you act like I missed the 'not sure' part of your post - you basically said I didn't know what I was talking about, complete with quotes around the word know and all - so save it.

And as someone else mentioned, don't think being in VERY close proximity to 8 other people for 12 hours would be any better covid-wise than being in close proximity to maybe 6 other people for 2 hours on a plane.

Would you share a landjet with people you did not know now? While a decent option to get there, not knowing if the person is asymp and going to be in the same space as you for 10 hours may be concerning.

I wouldn't. Not because of covid, I just wouldn't want to spend 10 hours in a van with a stranger that I might not like. I don't see how riding in a van with 7 other people is riskier than flying with 200 and going through an airport with thousands. Neither worry me personally, though.

Looked at the interior pictures. Few good places to take a nap. I'm out.

Depends on the configurations and capacity. Some of the ones they showed me had places you could lay flat and sleep. All had captains chairs that seem nap-worthy. One of the things we considered was driving overnights to save the cost of hotel nights (for us and the driver).

I'm thinking of all the sketchy gas stations you will hit along the way will be way higher chance of getting COVID than an airplane where everyone has to wear a mask and get wiped down after every flight.
