Judging by his twitter account, we will have #25 running the ball for the Cyclones.

Not sure how to link to twitter...so here is what he said...

Crazy to think next time we walk in Jack ima be padded up...check check.."

OK i'm confused. The title says cleared for next year which is 2013 season not this season. And the next time we walk into JT is this season. So should the OP's title say cleared to play this season? Or is he correct in saying next year?
On a side note he fumbles a lot and the thought of him and Jantz together is a scarey thought.

Based on a tidbit I picked up at Cy's House I can confirm he's cleared now. It's up to a personal decision for Shontrelle due to risk of reinjury. If he's talking like he's going on the field then I'd expect to see him this year. He was actually cleared already and could have been in on spring ball, but there's no sense in rushing back into it.

Coach Rhoads has said that he has been active in the weight room and in drills, as well as being eager to get into drills as soon as he is cleared. I'm looking forward to hearing something from the coaches on this, particularly if Shontrelle is overly eager or tends to be optimistic. It would certainly be fantastic to have him. What a great problem to try to figure out which ones of these guys to play at a time!

Here is how I see the carries...
SJ 50%
JWhite. 25%
JWoody. 15% (I see him doing more blocking and playing just like Ryan Kock did)
Backups 10%

I really have no idea, fun to think about it though.

Shontrelle Johnson coming back next year is awesome news. Just adding more to the best/deepest position on the team.

Good to hear if true. I hope he's making a wise decision, but he's the one with the information, so I trust that it is.

Agreed. There should absolutely be no rush on this. And there is no way any player can be 100% free of a neck injury, let alone a guy who has already experienced one. And remember, Shontrelle still has a redshirt he can use. Maybe that full season off can benefit him and being extremely patient would pay off and allow for an eventual return?

Obviously a healthy Shontrelle would help this team, as he is an elite talent with the ball in his hands. Just not sure how much reward there is compared to the risks. Help win a couple more games and have a shot at the NFL? Or possibly never walk again?

This is why the doctors and CPR get paid top dollar.

The bolded section actually would probably be the best thing. That extra off season could really help him to fully recover. The body will recover but somethings just simply take time and giving it more time than less time is always the best decision in those cases.

I'd love to see us running some screens to him or running some motion and splitting him out. I love what he can do in the open field.

'Trell is one of the nicest guys youll meet in a cyclone uniform. im 50/50.. Would love to see him back out there for us but echo the thought that id hate for him to severely alter his future on and off the gridiron.

If Nealy and Standard are good to go for this year, I'd prefer SJ gets redshirted. Our depth is good enough that he can sit for another year, not hurry back, and be 100% for the 2013 campaign.

I also would like to see SJ take a redshirt and heal more. Get a year of separation between SJ and White. We used Duck Hollis RS to get separation and he is no longer on the team. It is up to SJ though.

Shontrelle is certainly a dynamic player and I am really glad to hear that his injury has healed enough for him to make his return. I am not going to lie though... I'll be holding my breath for the first few games every single time he touches the ball. Hopefully his elusiveness will help him avoid taking any big hits.

I feel like White is very fast and hits the hole very hard, but he doesn't have much "wiggle." He doesn't make guys miss the way SJ does. They would be a great combination as they have different skills that compliment each other, and then you add Woody in and we have some great depth at RB.

I'm just wondering if this something that can "heal more." My guess is that this is something that is what it is and another year won't make the odds of him being injured any greater. Of course, I'm not a doctor.

Getting SJ back would be big. White was solid last year but SJ had some explosiveness to him. Not counting fumble, he was huge against Iowa.

I thought about this as well. His neck may be fully healed now. However, one benefit I could see to redshirting would be for him to get stronger to prevent future injury. He hasn't been able to work out nearly as much since the injury so I would worry about his potential for injury going up. A full year getting stronger overall would be good for him I think.
