If he didn't think he would be able to coach his son here for 4 years makes him sound like a big failure to me. He knew he wasn't going to turn the tide here......thus, making him a FAILURE of a coach at this level. No confidence in himself and the program he ran. Thank goodness that Gmac is GONE. Horrible coach at the BCS level.

I've lost a LOT of respect for GMac today as a person. Although I believe this worked out well for ISU, GMac is a loser for what he's done to JP on this deal.

JP came out and gave his full support to GMac only weeks ago when he really should have fired his rear end for doing such a horrible coaching job this season with the talent he had. JP stuck his head out on the line for him when he didn't need to.

And now GMac is going to pluck Doug away from one of his friends after he's already signed a LOI? That is low folks. Really low. It puts Jacobsen in a really tough spot to try to find someone else now.

I think we're beginning to see the GMac that I saw rip into Wayne Morgan on UNI's basketball court one night... when I lost all respect I had for GMac. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw him hired as our next head coach for the immature acts he performed that night to ISU's head coach. I'm beginning to see why he lost so many players over the years now.

I think GMac is REALLY REALLY good at covering up who he really is. I think the players all witnessed a side of him that none of us ever got to see. Today is their day in the sun.

Not just JP, but Bill Fennelly as well, who has always defended Gmac as a man of integrity and who does things the right way.
Wonder if anyone has asked BF for comment???
I disagree McDermott was on thin ice here and this is an opportunity for a fresh start for both ISU and McD. He went from 1 or 2 years away from being potentially fired to a fresh start and a 9 year deal which we all know is really a 4-5 year deal unless he does well. If he continues to lose top players it may be a 2-3 year deal. Regardless it is still a better deal. Bill Fennelly in the same situation might do the same thing.

Once again, or he didn't think his son was good enough to play for him in the Big 12. Missouri Valley is a whole different story.

OH! If you only knew, hopefully it will come out on how some of the coaches reilly treated some of these players. Hopefully some of the players will start talking, but they won't because D1 and DII players don't want to get blacklisted, thats if you want to play college ball anywhere. More kids leaving soon!

GMac would have been an idiot to NOT take Creighton's offer. More money, longer terms, job security. I'm guessing JP realizes this is how business goes, and to himself, laughing his butt off that he just had a ~$3,000,000 gain.
the irony of this post is soooooooooo rich i can barely stand it.

Pollard Confirms McDermott to Creighton

AMES, Iowa- Iowa State Director of Athletics Jamie Pollard said Monday that Greg McDermott informed him this afternoon that he has accepted the men’s basketball head coaching position at Creighton.

“I know this was a very difficult decision for Greg and his family,â€￾ Pollard said. “Unfortunately if a coach's world is not absolutely perfect (in his mind), he runs from the problem rather than deal with it. Personally, I wonder how his generation is going to survive in the real world when his AD is not there for them during his job interview. The bottom line is life is not a video game, you can't just hit reset if you do not like your initial score."

Macs only mistake was recruiting kids that could handle being pushed to get better. The kids that left for playing time I understand the kids that left for any other reasons were soft and weak and "life" will take care of those people.
