If you think Kirkwood apartments constitutes a slum then you have not been outside the state of Iowa.........ever.

Mike Foley, 18, who lives in an apartment building nearby, saw several police cars arrive to the area and walked down to see the scene. He said he saw two people brought out on stretchers and put into an ambulance.
Mankind? Wait that's Mick, nevermind, nothing to see here.

I'm from Chicago so I have definitely been to worse places in the world. Those would be considered slummy by iowa standards. More because of the college students and methheads.

I was using it more jokingly. But im not really shocked by shots being fired there regardless of their slumminess.

You're an idiot. I love the generalizations of Kirkwood students.

First off, youre an idiot. The Kirkwood apartments are nicer than most campus apartments at the major state universities. Secondly, youre probably not from "Chicago". More than likely from the "Chicagoland" area which is anything but "slummy".

I'm from Chicago...but OK whatever you say. Having been inside probably 5 or 6 different apartments out there I would definitely not say they are nice. But you're right I'm just a silver spooned suburb kid what the **** would I know.

I've been to several of the apartments at Kirkwood, and I'd take those in a heartbeat over some of the places I've seen in Iowa City. Hardly slummy, and certainly not by college standards. Nice generalization of the student body at Kirkwood, too. That's the tip-off that you don't know what the **** you're talking about.

I never generalized kirkwood students at all, I said college students... I have tons of friends who are perfectly normal that go to Kirkwood. I'm just saying there is crime involved with colleges. In addition College students don't take care of buildings just another fact. I do not ever take a shot at Kirkwood kids, my brother goes there.

I agree. Maybe those apartments, in particular, are slummy, but the area itself? Far from it.

I lived in College Park Apts. the one year I was at K-wood (not too far away). Sure, fights broke out every now and then, but the area has developed nicely as of recent with new housing and a hotel down the road. That area of town, overall, is quite nice IMO.

Ya those particular apartments are really bad, that was my point. The area by Kirkwood is not bad at all. Kirkwood itself is very nice.

some myths debunked. I have attended Kirkwood, Iowa, and Iowa St

Kirkwood intructors? many have their PhD's. Better instruction than some greasy T.A. at Iowa, which I had the unfortunate pleasure of learning from.

Kirkwood apts? It about some of the people. When you allow hoards of Section 8 people to double-dip the welfare system in CR (moved in from Illinois) and then throw free money at them to attend Kirkwood (and use their Pell Grant $$ to buy new laptops--and drive straight to a pawn shop to sell them 1/2 hour later), you're going to have PROBLEMS

16,000 students? You're going to get your share of a few whacked-out moho's @ Kirkwood, but generally a great school
