John Meeks was ranked #6 in the entire class in 2012 by Intermat, just an FYI. His redshirt got pulled because of a great showing against Joe Colon at the Harold Nichols open.

But I still think Casey will be fine as well.
Meeks got injured at the UNI Open that year, I was there, looked outstanding in his first matches defaulted out I believe and never seemed the same mentally after that. That being said, I am firmly in the camp that thinks Swiderski will be fine and have a great career.

Is Casey going to have to steal a spot to qualify for the NCAA tournament? How many more wins does he need? I still don’t really know all the ins and outs of automatic qualifiers

Please stop with the redshirt debate and the coulda/woulda/shoulda's. Casey had plenty of national level experience coming in and was our best option at the weight. There are plenty of examples around the country of true freshmen tearing it up. The 'always redshirt' argument is a thing of the past.
Ramazon at 133 and Redding at 141 was a legit option.

You wrestle the guy that has the best chance of performing in March. It’s not like he is losing to bad wrestlers. Scwartz just beat Hart 8-1. March is all that really matters. Can’t wait to see how Casey and team responds tonight after the lack luster performance last night.
Cael went 18-1 as a RS I think. Short term loss for a long-term gain is a thing.

I will gladly eat crow if Casey scores points at the NC so the team can come home with a trophy.

I know tomorrow is never guaranteed, but the points he would score in 4 yrs with his eligibility in addition to how recruiting is going shows greater promise than this year.

The single Cael example will never die. HS/Freestyle wrestling is a totally different game than it was back then. Kids are way more ready for college than ever before. Cael himself has no issue wrestling true freshmen at PSU when they are the best in the room.

That said, I will give you that specific to Casey, he does seem to have an issue with mat wrestling that, in retrospect, could perhaps have been corrected during a redshirt year. However, I don't think we ever had that indication coming in, even with all of the elite matches he had.
