Considering it's Farmageddon week, and we lost the Telephone Trophy w/ Mizzou, should we consider establishing a new trophy with a conference rival? I would love to see another piece of hardware that we compete for.

Best candidates (in my opinion) would obviously be Farmageddon (K-State) and the Riot Bowl (West Virginia). Input?

EDIT: And yes, it is multiple choice. I wouldn't mind having one for either game.

A trophy of a couch in a flaming dumpster for WVU would be great, but since that will never be allowed to happen ill go with no. And KSU would just end up being another cy-hawk debacle.

I don't know if you just whip up a trophy and you have a rivalry or a more important game. Let's see what happens with WVU. They could come in undefeated and we could knock them off then maybe something starts. You don't just create a rivalry out of thin air. At this point, with a lot of things established, it's hard to find new ones. Of course, they need a new rival. All they have right now is Marshall. We are their closest conference opponent for them so I am hopeful.

I completely agree with this. I am really hopeful we form some kind of bond over the years, and hope we can build a lasting relationship with WVU to bring something like a rivalry trophy into reality. Forcing something definitely doesn't help traditions at all (as we should well know). Either way, it'd be cool if we could eventually bring something like that to fruition.

Exactly. We've been playing K-State for probably about a century now but I wouldn't consider it a rivalry game. That term gets thrown around way to loosely. Plus, I thought it was pathetic that Iowa got a trophy for a game against Nebraska and I don't want to go around doing anything pathetic like that.

I think it'd be cool for John Deere to get involved with "Farmageddon" and have a shiny green tractor-trophy.

I'm not sure if you could get teams to go along with it, but I always thought some sort of reverse trophy would be really cool and funny. Just some awful, embarassing item that the losing team is forced to take with them and look at all year.

I'm not sure why this sentiment is so pervasive with regard to trophy games. It doesn't have to be some heated rivalry...there just has to be a reason. An ISU/KSU trophy could be created tomorrow and make perfect sense since the institutions are so similar (except for the fact that ours is much, much better). One of the trophies Michigan State plays for (can't recall exactly which one) was created when they joined the Big 10...no other reason. We could absolutely "make one up" for the WVU game as a gesture to welcome the Mountaineers to the conference. The reason the NU/UI trophy is so lame is HyVee's involvement - it's a phony sentiment based on profit and not a real relationship between the two programs.

I've said it before; I have in my possession a 1953 John Deere tractor that I would gladly give to the Alumni Association which could be traded back and fourth with the KSUAA as the Farmageddon trophy. Perhaps each schools ROTC or vet school could be in charge of it?

The telephone trophy was one of the best in the nation simply because of the quirky story behind it and the fact it was so ****ing strange. Trophies are best when they're about being fun not necessarily being cool.

I fully expect WVU to leave a flaming couch on our sideline after they lose and start rioting on the field.

This is a great idea, but how are we going to get Greg McDermott to quit his job at Creighton to become the "traveling anti-trophy" for the ISU-KSU football series?

I think it should be an Ethan Allen couch for WVU.

Cornlands of Ayuxwa
Golden acre with KSU. The loser has to plant an acre of corn (when ISU wins) or wheat (When KSU wins) on their main research farm. Put a giant sign up and advertise for visitor to see the acre.

It's simple, unique, and echoes the theme of the game. We could easily get a number of agriculture companies to sponsor the game to raise awareness for world hunger issues.

I agree WE do lousy playin g for a trophy ie 15 losses in a row in the cyhawk series, how absolutely pathetic was that?

Ranks right up there with some other BAD ideas, that our athletic directors have had from time to time- like: Hiring Jimmy dean Criner and Jimmy don Walden, after those two I dont want to even think of another coach with the name of jimmy.

I think KSU would work since that is where the Farmageddon term originated. I was envisioning a typical trophy, with a combine creating the shape of a FB field.

But weR138's idea of using an ACTUAL old tractor is absolutely brilliant. You could maybe even drive it back and forth (well, maybe part way).

The only problem is if you use a Deere, you annoy CaseIH, or vice versa. Maybe find one that is out of business to be "sponsor-neutral". But I love the idea of an actual tractor.

I would want a trophy for the farmageddon game.
1)I like the tractor idea, but i think it should be hand-held trophy.

2)We could be like Minnesota and Wisconsin (axe) and have a sickle or a reaper as a trophy.

3)We could have a plough and it would be one of the old 1800s style ones. Wouldn't be handheld, but it could be pulled on a wagon or something.
