If Pollard walks away because somebody said something on Twitter the dude needs to go, immediately.

Do not walk away from the best option again because of social media

JP should be offering 2 million or more to start with. If he's not, then he's not very serious about landing him.

1.5 million would be an insult for a Big 12 head coaching job. But it wouldn't surprise me at all if JP did low ball him. If that ends up costing us, then JP needs to be shown the door.

If it takes 1.5 to get someone like campbell here, then that's what it takes. That is being financially responsible. Why pay more if you don't have to? Throwing more money at your top target is not going to make them in to a winner. Plus, you could hve more in the budget for some really good coordinators and assistants.

What I would be upset about is if Campbell wants 2-2.5 million and we say no.

@AutulloAAS: Matt Campbell turns 36 tomorrow. Most of his career in front of him. He goes to ISU, loses, and may never be a HC again. Tough to win at ISU

That's why JP has to nearly double whatever Toledo offers him. If Toledo offers him 1 million, then we have to go with 2 million minimum. If Toledo offers 1.5 million then we should go to 3 million, or at least 2.5 million.

The ISU job would not be worth it if it's just 500k more or something. Too much pressure at ISU versus Toledo AND it's easier to win at Toledo.

FYI I have heard from 2 people that the premature leak isn't sitting well with some parties and this isn't yet a done deal. Campbell is the favorite and numbers have been agreed upon as I previously mentioned, but we were at a very similar stage with a certain candidate about 7 years ago and we walked away at the alter. Just set a cautious reminder.

If he fails at Iowa State he'll be around 40 years old. It's laughable that he wouldn't have a chance to be a head coach again.

@AutulloAAS: Iowa State fans upset by my comment Toledo in some ways a better job. Tom Herman and Gene Chizik did nothing at ISU. Left and won NC.

Wait, I thought he said if they lose at ISU they may never be a HC again...

I agree. If we have anyone to be nervous about, it's Mizzou or another P5 school that jumps in last minute and blind offers him (if there's such a thing).

It'd be fun waiting around for another player boycott @ Mizzou. So many are offended down there

Wasn't part of the leak that we canceled other interviews? If so, it may be more than just the Campbell camp leaking things.

If he just doesn't fail, he goes bowling next year. Do that 2-3 times and he's a wealthy man that looks like some kind of coaching legend.

At 36 now, washing out would have him at around 40 years old. That's plenty of time in the worst case scenario to find a coordinator job and work his way back to the head chair for a long time.

If Pollard can't seal the deal here because he won't pay the bill (unless it's some ridiculous amount) then I'm done with Pollard.

Agree completely.

Are we in the Big 12 or not? We can't keep paying people the worst salary in the league and expect to win. Football pays all the bills for the athletics department. You would think that might be important.

Yeah, this seems totally petty; if ISU and Campbell have agreed on numbers and ISU cancelled other interviews, of course the Campbell people are going to think it means the job is his.

Are some people here that naive to think that the leak came from our side only? There is a psossibility that his agent also "leaked" this to press Mizzou (or other schools) to make better offer
