I certainly hope that none of the players read this site.
Here are a bunch of posters, who, to be honest, really know nothing about what is going on with Tavon and the coaches, or what his attitude might be, yet they think they are qualified to comment on it. The comment about he did not come out and congratulate SC on his shot is just nonsense. That same claim was first made about CA on the same shot......then the poster realized that in actuality, CA was the first to congratulate SC. Seriously.......you are going to judge a player's attitude based on his reaction in one situation?
Everyone was pretty positive about Tavon's recruitment. He was recruited by other schools, and offered (according to Scout) by West Virginia. At the time of his recruitment, he was a PG. His last season in high school, for whatever reason, his coach switched him to SG and put another player at the point.
Very well written post! And spot on!
Now, ISU's coaches had to know that. They knew when Tavon arrived he had not played PG in the previous year. I doubt they were counting on him to give them many minutes in that position.
No doubt, as with probably most freshmen, Tavon would like to get more playing time, and perhaps even expected it. I'm sure there is some disappointment there. I have not seen anything, read anything, or heard anything that would tell me there is anything more than that going on.......or honestly that even that is going on with him. Players coming into college are coming out of high school where they were the top dog....then they suddenly realize that now they are on a team of high school top dogs. That would be an adjustment for anyone. Not that long ago, freshmen athletes were not eligible to play varsity......there was a reason for that.
All I'm saying is......for God's sake......give the kid a chance! We have seen him play a total of 17 minutes in 7 games......and some of you are ready to throw him under the bus. Really? Using your guidelines, I wonder how many ISU stars of the past would not have made it because they did not shine or tear up the court their freshman year? From what I saw of Tavon, he is extremely quick, was decent defensively, and had great leaping ability. It was obvious he needed to adjust to the college game.
As far as the redshirt goes......he may be able to get a medical redshirt, and he may not. He cannot participate in more than 20 per cent of the games......and it is too early to tell if that has happened. Also, the injury is supposed to be serious. Not sure a groin pull would qualify in the eyes of the NCAA. Finally, the injury has to occur in the first half of the season. I think the initial groin pull was in the first half. So we shall see.
My point is.......these players are ISU Cyclones right now. They deserve our complete support. Some of you are posting on here and basically just posting speculation, not any facts. Then to top it off, some of you say you will be fine if certain players are not here next year. Such great fans. Knock it off.
Personally, I hope Tavon is just taking a year to develop into a better player, that his injury has sidelined him, and that next year he can compete with Korie, Bubu, Naz and any others for PG playing time, or for a SG position.
