Sometimes when you get a big boy job, you are restricted from leaving for a competitor for a certain amount of years.
We won’t ever agree on this … I see your post hear it as they owe you something…. They don’t. And it’s sad you feel that way.And what does a coach making career moves(by his choice or the schools) have to do with the player(who can transfer after a coaching change)? Education first. Don’t commit to a school if you want want a degree from there. Most people aren’t lucky enough to go to the school they choose for free.
College still is considered school right? Or did I miss this becoming the Pros? But I guess in the NFL you can’t just switch teams whenever you want either.
And in some states they are illegal.Sometimes when you get a big boy job, you are restricted from leaving for a competitor for a certain amount of years.
I don’t see where @RustShack ever said anyone owed him anything. We won’t ever agree on this … I see your post here as they owe you something…. They don’t. And it’s sad you feel that way.
I heard it as that. So many schools will give them opportunities. Just like many employers give employees opportunities.I don’t see where @RustShack ever said anyone owed him anything.
if anything, maybe they owe it to their teammates , their coaches, and their school that gave them an opportunity for a free education.
I mean no one is forcing them to get paid to get a free education playing a sport they love either. If they don’t want to play, then don’t.We won’t ever agree on this … I see your post hear it as they owe you something…. They don’t. And it’s sad you feel that way.
True. But players that shop around are similar to job hoppers that wonder why they can’t get a job when they were able to get five last year.I heard it as that. So many schools will give them opportunities. Just like many employers give employees opportunities.
By the same token if they don't want to play for that team anymore, then don't.I mean no one is forcing them to get paid to get a free education playing a sport they love either. If they don’t want to play, then don’t.
Agreed. Pay a buyout if you want out.By the same token if they don't want to play for that team anymore, then don't.

What school does this... is there one going this route? Or are we making stuff up at this moment.Agreed. Pay a buyout if you want out.
There isn't. It's pure make believe. If anyone thinks that any school is going to enact any kind of restriction or requirement that's punitive to the athlete, then they haven't been paying attention, or are being wilfully ignorant. What school does this... is there one going this route? Damn, that isn’t what all of the emails from ISU tell me when asking for more donations to support the athletes education. It might be best for your sanity if you stop pretending that college athletics have much of anything to do with college academics, and haven't had much to do with them for a very long time.
If it's a big boy job, then pay them. Make them employees and let them negotiate compensation. Then you add your noncompete language. But the NCAA has insisted for years that they are not employees. Can't have it both ways.Sometimes when you get a big boy job, you are restricted from leaving for a competitor for a certain amount of years.

So in your hypothetical the school is now paying the athletes too? This is getting confusing.Agreed. Pay a buyout if you want out.
I’m pretty sure they indeed lose access to the team facilities when they quit mid-season. Coaches don’t want them ‘poisoning the pool’ after they quit.Again, schools are free to try that if they want to, but other schools would absolutely use it against them in recruiting.
Why should adult athletes be treated differently than adult coaches on where they want to be?

I doubt it.Well wait until it starts affecting us, then let’s see how you feel
