This, seriously. I have a single stage Toro and an old two stage Toro. Some years i don't even fire the two-stage up at all.

And a big, heck no, on that electric thingy. Electric start, yes, electric motor, nope.
Same here, I have one of each too. The last time I used the 2 stage was when the single stage ran out of gas and I didn't have any in the gas can.

I'll wait for the consensus/death match for what 2015 should get his mom, but what's the best time of year to buy one of these things?

I'm used to a skidloader for small snows and full on cab tractor for the big stuff. Going to be strange having a tiny little machine to handle the snow.

PapaLew uses the Bobcat.

Last couple years we've had more of those heavy wet snows that single stages can't deal with. I had a single stage troy bilt for almost ten years that did the job but these last few winters I finally wished I had a 2 stage.

I've got a single stage 200cc Cub Cadet that hasn't had any problems the last couple years. Actually, it cleans the drive better than a two stage and is easier to maneuver and store.

For the record I would like to state, my single stage toro made it just fine through 9" today.

I'd like video proof. I though my neighbor was going to have heart attack with his single stage. It was even slow with my two stage.

How old is your stepmom and how much driveway/sidewalk is there? My mom is 78 and uses dad's old John Deere 824.This is the first winter that she hasn't used it. We told her after major back surgery that she was done shoveling snow so she hired someone to do it. It also depends on where she can throw the snow. My neighbor and my driveways are right next to each other so I have to throw the snow aways to get it out into the yard. I need a 2 stage to get the snow where I need it.

Admittedly I'd like to see video too. But those snowpants he must be wearing with the sweater tucked in - woof! ;)

Days like today are reasons I have my two stage 24" Ariens. I didn't work hard at all to move the snow, completely easy. Only snow that thing struggles with is if I wait too long and the snow is very frozen/hard. Actually enjoyed it this morning - probably because we've had so little snow this year.

I have a two stage menards brand that's 13 years old and couldn't move some of the deep wet stuff today. May be time to buy a newer single stage.

Every year my wife says I can get one when prices go down at end of season. Every year I forget.

I tried telling her it's not a huge price difference. Prob 50 bucks.

What do you have? My Cub Cadet single stage had trouble with this snow. There was a lot of wet stuff and some hard stuff that it really struggled on. I was sweating my *** off by the time I finished.

This video shows how big of a difference between the single and dual stage throwers.

I have a cheap-arse "Eagle Star" or something single stage that I inherited from the FIL when they moved to AZ. Only thing I had trouble with was the stuff where the earlier passes had been blown on top of already sitting snow, so it was double heavy....and even then, that was only when I was cutting a new path so I was in full width. Although, the snow plow hadn't passed yet, so I didn't have that heavy pack to deal with...that'll be later, hopefully the wind dies down.

This is one of those snows where I *might* say I wish I had a 2 stage, but it's not worth it for all the rest of the snows where it's more of a hassle. Still, though, I think I might have gotten done faster than my neighbor with a 2 stage, he musta had it in granny gear or something, looked over and he was going approximately 3 feet per minute in about 3 inches.
