So ISU is "that" neighbor...

My guess is that Tech and WVU have the fanbase and support to expand seating, both regular and premium. Other than them and the regulars in Texas and Oklahoma, the Big 12 has some pretty small fanbases.

That's what I was thinking too. I know Tech did something recently but not sure if it marries them to their current stadium or not.

Could WVU be holding back on major projects because they're considering starting from scratch on theirs?

No. Haven't even heard a wacky rumor to that effect.

We actually have scheduled work for the concessions/restrooms/turf/crown removal/etc. in the off season I believe. My guess is after a few years of full membership payments things will pick up...maybe a cosmetic make over.

Hey Mtneer, what's the feeling among WV fans about your basketball team this coming year?

I'm only a casual BB fan so I don't really have a good answer. I'm pretty sure Holgs will double down on defense from last year. And from my few stops on the BB board I think fans are cautiously optimistic about the coming year. Sorry not much help here.

The $ difference between what ISU is getting now and 7-8 years ago is pretty staggering.

Our fans haven't always shown up the way they do now. The 80s and most of the 90s were very dark and a struggle for attendance. Then we had very up and down success (success as in getting bowl eligible, not bcs level) in late 90s forward. Our current AD has done a ton of successful work changing fan culture and Rhaods really captured the imagination of our football fans with his first few years before the current rough stretch we're in.

I was a freshman at ISU in '97 and the basketball fan support has always been above average for B12 even in bad years...but the football game atmosphere is really night and day compared to what it was in mid 90s and before then. I doubt WVU fans could know how different ISU home games feel now the way Nebraska or Oklahoma fans would.

I don't get the whole WVU fans are just like us comments. I went to WVU/Baylor in 2012 (WVU's first BigXII game) and their fans were the nicest (and some of the best) I've ever encountered, but they seemed very different than the average Big XII fan.

1.) Grown men wearing jerseys to games. What are they too good for coaches' polos?

2.) Nobody we were seated by or interacted with were WVU alums. They just happened to be football fans who lived in WV.

3.) They were in awe of UT football. A lot of "well you guys (lulz) are good, but we play Texas in a few weeks and we aren't ready". Strong will get them there if given enough time, but their fear about playing them was pretty funny for the end of Mack Brown era. I bet that is something that they have changed views on over the past 3 years.

4.) Socioeconomically they seem to be on a different playing field than the rest of the Big XII (or at least the Texas Big XII fans). They seemed waaay too nice and didn't have the snootiness associated with Baylor, TCU, or Texas fans.

It sounds like they fit better with the big 8 members. They might not be like fans of Baylor or other Texas schools, but that might be a cultural difference on your end

Agreed. Texans aren't like the rest of the Big 12.

I live in a town of less than 5,000 people in rural northern Iowa and have a hard time deciding what to do with my free time because I feel like I always have multiple competing, appealing options.

If you need bright lights to stay entertained, you probably suck.

I'm supposed to wear a polo to games? Are T Shirts no longer acceptable?

There seems to be a theme to point #4

I can count the number of times I've worn a polo to a game without using my hands (or feet!), since that glorious number is a resounding ZERO!
