I really hope tonight's championship games ratings tank.

First of all we continue with this heavily rigged 4 team invitational now until 2026, where certain teams and league champs are heavily given preference over others. Why watch a sport all year long for a championship that is heavily slanted towards involving just a handful of teams and everyone else plays a post-season exhibition game 4 weeks after the season? Oh wait, I know too many playoff teams makes the regular season worthless. Tell that to the NFL and the Chargers/Raiders last night.

Secondly, we see a sport not trying to engage all areas of the country but become more and more regionalized and shrink the pie of the number of fans instead of increasing it. Its a system where instead of trying to engage all parts of the country they are trying to create super leagues to give the teams who already a huge built in advantage in the brand value, recruiting and revenues. What's the sports answer? Lets further consolidate the power and widen the gap.

Count me out, send them a message with your viewership.

Heavily rigged? Which team is out there that is better than Georgia or Alabama?

Yep. I hate the SEC guzzlers as much as anyone, and it was nice to see their other teams struggle in the bowl games. But Alabama and Georgia destroyed their playoff competitors. So hard to argue that these are not the best teams.

If ISU had to win a game or I would be killed, these are the last 2 teams I would want them to play. That's my math. I don't particularly care who wins though. I have money on Bama but would probably prefer them to lose if I didn't have money on it.

Its not about whether this is the two best teams its about access for the rest of the country. Four teams is an invitational not a playoff. It took almost a miracle for Cincy to get in this year and they wouldn't have if they didn't have ND scheduled this year. Cincy certainly gave as good of a performance as Michigan did.

Right now we have seen the sport be very top heavy but it doesn't always have to be that way.

Then we see the sport trying to put everyone at the top in the SEC & B1G to allow those schools to dominate even by larger scales revenue wise. Its just going to continue to create a matchup like tonight.

I probably won't watch because I have other stuff to do and the rematch thing does kind of bore me. That being said, you wrote a terrific manifesto.

Yes a relatively small fanbase not watching tonight's game will teach them a lesson.

If all of the marginalized fan bases don't watch it adds up. If the PAC region doesn't watch it adds up. If the state of Texas doesn't watch it adds up. If fan bases that just want a true playoff with access to a reasonable percentage of teams tune out it adds up.

I'll watch to see if by some miracle Georgia can finally best Alabama which would be very entertaining. That being said, I'm sure Bama will be leading 28-0 by halftime at which point the nation (with the exception of Tuscaloosa) will tune out.

That's not going to happen.

People like football so they'll watch football.

Imagine the type of coordination that would need to go into even making a dent in viewership. This is a played out take.

It has so many things going for it, well you can really wrap it into one. It's college football, no other games are to be played, and college football isn't coming back for a long time. Do 95% of fans hate that it's a rematch and the SEC is getting exactly what they want, yes for sure! Is that enough to deter you from actually watching? Probably not.

It's football, we like football. Should I not watch the most talented players in college to flex my muscle and then do what instead, armchair QB on the internet or watch an extra 2 hours of Netflix out of spite?

I wouldn't call it a boycott, but i'm not watching tonight. Just no interest in 2 SEC teams who just played each other. I enjoyed the USC-Texas game with Vince young and the Oklahoma-Florida Tebow/Bradford game. Haven't been super interested since.
