Many of us played on outdoor, blacktop courts in the dead of winter, barely able to see by the light of street lamps or feel our fingers in the cold.

Wow. That's rough. Guess we Iowans have it easy with our gymnasiums and electricity.

Depends on how old you are. I had to laugh because that's exactly what we used to do in the 60's, sometimes even wearing gloves.

When I read some of these overviews from Virginia fans I walk away thinking were playing the Lakers with Kobe and Shaq or something.

One factor I don't think is being discussed enough is how well the Clones play when the crowd is behind them. Make no mistake Cyclone fans will travel to Chicago by the thousdands. Secondly, Iowa State is clicking on all cylinders right now. Thomas, Nader and Niang are playing the best basketball of their careers. Morris is finally healthy. McKay when the energy and focus is there (and it will be Friday) is a force. Quite possibly the best offense in the country vs. Quite possibly the best defense in the country. The best offensive player in the nation in Niang going against the best defensive player in the country in Brogdon. Let's lace em up and may the best team win.

At the end of the day Niang knows this is his last go-round. The ball will be in his hands early and often. There is no player in the country I would trade him for. I have confidence he will deliver when the lights shine the bightest. See ya Friday!

*grin* That's the first I've heard that one, and I thought I'd heard them all. I really do think my version is the correct one, but who knows? My favorite one that isn't true is that we're called "wahoos" because a wahoo is a fish that can drink twice it's own weight.

Hah. That is what I was told by a UVA fan out in NYC two years ago. Your fans were the best of the bunch. Seriously **** UConn.

Footnote: Virginia has some fantastic wins but some crappy losses just like ISU. I think the folks at Virginia judge us more by what they see on Kenpom than what ISU is currently about.....which is fine. We had a lot of obstacles, injuries, coach change, suspensions, ect. I think the key here is who is "peaking". ISU is just now beginning to peak. A third of those crappy Kenprom stats can be thrown out the window. Everyone thinks we are the "underdog" and I kind of like going into this match up like that. We've already knocked down two very good teams "decisively".

ISU has no bad losses. Every loss this year was to a tournament team. And Virginia has maybe one or two bad losses. And they were all on the road. We need to make this as much of a home game as possible. And most losses were to up tempo teams that can score. That also bodes well for ISU.

No doubt this will be a very difficult game but it's one that ISU can absolutely win.

Thanks for the info Hoo. I must admit I am still reading it, it sort of reminds me of the fourth Game of Thrones book.:jimlad: So forgive me if you already explained this, but why did Bennett renege on the Hilton end of our home and home in his second year?

Just some quick analysis after looking at their schedule.

-Bad road losses early in the season at George Washington, Florida State, Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech. Should have had an even bigger loss at Wake Forest if not for a miracle 3-pointer at the buzzer and complete incompetence by the opposition. I would compare that to us winning at TCU on a miracle Hallice Cooke 3 at the buzzer with a player right in his face.

-Huge top end wins home and neutral against teams like Cal, Villanova, West Virginia, Miami, North Carolina.

-Alot of their wins seemed to be in the 8-12 point range where they played a steady game, winning each half by 3 or 4 points

- 2 solid road wins at Louisville and Pitt but like Iowa State most of their damage came at home and on a neutral court

-Had a 7 game winning streak in February but not alot of competition during that stretch. Certainly with the unbalanced ACC schedule there are opportunities to get on runs against the conference bottom feeders where that is not possible in the Big 12.

- Alot of the highlights I saw were teams draining open 3's of their defense which looks like it can be defeated by quick ball movement around the perimeter and getting their defense to sag on the inside. I think if we are hitting our 3's we have a chance. I think Thomas and Nader will be huge in this game, as I think all of the focus will be them stopping Niang from driving the paint. We should get alot of good looks from 3.

I feel like Iowa State will have a huge home court advantage in this one. I think if we continue playing our game like we have the last couple weeks we can win.

Can a mod please confirm or deny that Hoondog is, in fact, Tony Bennett looking for insider information from our fanbase? I feel like we're being played. I mean, you can look at tape all day long, but to get to the real nitty gritty, CF is where it's at.

Are we sure this isn't just **** Bennett trying to dig up some information for his son to use? Seems like to good of post to me. Fishy.

I'm concerned that this guy is Tony Bennett. If so, he's a better coach than I thought, and it makes me even more worried about Friday. All of the experts reside on CF.

Well personally, like I say in a lot of games, if we can stay out of foul trouble we have a chance. I hope it's not 5 Cyclones against 5 Cavaliers and 3 stripes. That's all I ask.

I thought for sure that the NCAA tournament meant that we would kiss Tom Eades goodbye for the year and then he showed up in Denver like the skunk that he is. Luckily we avoided him. I'm sure he'll be in Chicago.

Any chance "hoo" is short for "hoo-ha" and it's a reference to the part of the female anatomy that the word "Virginia" is similar to?

Yeah, just like West Virgina.

FYI: Forgot to mention earlier I do appreciate you visiting our board in such a professional and informative manner.

Enough with the love fest, Virginia must be destroyed at all costs... with no regard for collateral damage.

Do you think London Perrantes wakes up and thinks "Damn that's a nice haircut" when he looks in the mirror?

I've taken many of weekend road trips from D.C. west to Front Royal down through Culpeper to Charlottesville. On one trip outside Front Royal (long time ago) I shared a few slugs of mountain "shine". Somewhere between the boys yell'n Yahooooo! and Wahooo! came the term less a fish that drank twice it's own weight.
