Part of me is excited because he is only 36 and went 35-15 at Toledo and is also a former O-Line coach. But the other part of is being cautious because he took over at the best program in the MAC and just kept the status quo. He never won his division and has never been a part of a football team(as a coach or player) that is higher than MAC level either. He also has spent his entire life living in the state of Ohio so while that will give us some connections there I worry about connections in states like Texas, Florida, and Georgia and also Iowa. Who he hires as his assistants will be interesting.

@AlexHalsted: I'm hearing that Campbell did indeed meet with Missouri tonight. He is now headed to Ames tomorrow.

Can confirm that Warren will return next year. He had reached out to Campbell and is pleased with the hire. No reason to believe any key players are a flight risk YET based on comments from players, it all depends on team and individual mtgs in coming days (starting Monday). Expect Campbell to be at MBB game this week but was told it's not set in stone yet with things he will have to wrap up back home.

I don't really understand how anyone could be unhappy with this hire. We apparently wrapped him up early while others are still in a waiting mode (Mizzou). He's a very solid hire. Other than Niumatalolo, no one else on our list has 4-years experience as HC at the FBS level - and he's only 35!

Has little P5 ties to build staff and recruit the big12. Has not built a program. While I think it's good that Toledos offense was similar to ours, I thought we needed to bring in a coach with a "gimmick" like the triple option or power running (who knows, maybe he'll keep sturdy which if view as good). My biggest issue is that he's done nothing but manage a mid-major Toledo team that was built up by others before him, and has 0 experience at p5 schools.

Hope I am wrong in the worst way, but I think we will be going through this process again in 3-5 years.

Yeah, I don't see it as a great fit or fulfilling our needs, but I am sure JP loved him in the interview.
He has little experience outside of the state of Ohio. Is he well connected in Texas and Juco's? He is not known as innovated or a SME. He is going to have to hit it out of the park with his staff hires.

I'm not going to start a rumor by naming a player, but I have heard otherwise about a significant contributor on the team. Hopefully Campbell will meet with the team and change his mind.

Pretty stoked. Hearing rumors that Mizzou was making a play made me nervous, especially if the reports were true that we had cancelled other interviews.

I think we did about as well as we possibly could have hoped. Quick replacement, hopefully a smooth transition, and we didn't get saddled with a terribly unqualified coach (which absolutely would have happened had this dragged out).

Looking forward to the next chapter in Cyclone Football.

Which realistic candidates have P5 ties, has built a FBS program and runs a gimmick offense?

There are several other players in the mix to transfer. Hopefully they stick around. I think a lot of kids get worked up about a coach leaving, I hope they give Campbell a chance to say his piece in the team meeting next week.

You need to realize that ISU isn't exactly a destination for top tier football coaches. Getting a guy that has head coaching experience was vital. He's a young guy that has a ton of potential. It's been a long while since we've hired a guy like him.

I've heard a lot of rumblings but wouldn't state them until he has a chance to meet with them. I also don't think any of the players besides Warren have a real sense for what would remain the same and what would change. Give it a few days and we'll see.
