Dan only failed to sustain because we could never keep quality assistant coaches around. That's not all his fault, and the same fate arguably happened to Rhoads. It has a chance to continue to happen if the wrong hires are made.

Dan's biggest problem is, with the exception of Iowa, he would never crush the throat of an opponent he had beaten on the ground. During Dan's tenure we had some of the best defenses we've ever seen at ISU, particularly 2005. Dan's ISU team would routinely get multiple score leads and he'd rest on the laurels of his defense, which, while very good, opponents would just chip away at it until the lead was given up. 2005 was the classic example of this - all four regular season losses were blown leads; three lost in overtime, one to a bad Baylor team that we just let hang around. Dan's conservativeness because he didn't want to make the big mistake cost us potentially a 10-1 or 11-0 season in 2005. It even cost us in our bowl game with TCU. It was ultimately his downfall.

Finally.... a definitive answer to that ******** question of "Who would ever come here?" Iowa State is an attractive job after all. $2 million and nice facilities are worth something.

FBS Coaching Experience. Winner at multiple levels. Appears to have a high football IQ. Emphasizes line play. Good job Pollard.

Recruit, Retain and Develop. Spot on for what has to happen here! Now go hire some good assistants Matt.

Smack dab in the middle of Jeremy's $1.5-$2.5 million rumored offers. Let's hope there is a huge budget for assistants. We'll never have one of the best rosters in the conference but we could have one of the best coaching staffs.

Definitely a safe guess that our starting salary would be in there somewhere.

I think the Mizzou interview was just a negotiating tactic. What smart, up and coming young coach would want to mar his career by trying to lead that politically correct, entitled nightmare of a program?

What is politically correct in doing the right thing? Is that the definition of politically correct in the face of historic ignorance and fear? I suppose the letter MU sent to ISU about Jack Trice was your idea of of welcomed anti-PC?

It's a good hire. We won't know if it works out for a while, but it's a good hire.

Anti-PC has been appropriated as a concept; used to mask agreement with racist, sexist, anti-LGBT opinions or at least to support 'status quo' sentiment. Much like some movements have been hi-jacked and misapplied, so has the valid criticisms of PC culture.

The thing that caught my attention was the 6 years on the contract. Is an initial contract normally that long?

Yes most are that long so a coach can look a HS kid in the eye and tell him he will be their coach when the kid graduates. Unless you are Illinois anyway.

Legit question because I'm on mobile and can't get a big pic, is ISU playing Toledo in that picture?

It wasnt from last year because there are no Big 12 Logos on the field. So it had to be some game between 2008 and 2013. Visiting fan base showed up well. There is either a purple or blue in the opposing team. Its a night game. ISU has double digits, opposing team is in single digits based off the scoreboard. My best guess is its from UNI 2010. Could also be Kent State from 2008, SDSU from 2008, or Western Illinois from 2011.

Hmm. Possibly.

EDIT: I think it's Tulsa.

ISU played Toledo in Ames in 2014 and wore gold/gold unis, according to AP file photos of the game. Toledo wore white with navy pants. It could be from the time before that because I believe we played a 2-for-1 with them. But I'm old, and my memory of such things isn't all that good...
