If that was the case then why didn't that happen last year? Did OU and A&M believe that they could get the same amount of money as Texas for their own channel, and that's why they didn't go?

Dane Beebe and Texas' phony promise. Look, LHN was suppose to be a tier 3 rights game...no conference games nor a mention of HS games. OU and A&M have the rights to be ******,and guess what...they are doing something about it. Don't hate on them because they can.

A&M and OU's beef isn't about the money, it's about Texas showing HS games. A&M and OU are making a **** load. More than they would make in the SEC, actually (according to Chip Brown so take that w/a grain of salt).

If we put this Network together, it can do the things that Texas is doing. Will it have the exposure? Maybe not, but these guys are acting like this is all about the principle. Well, the principle could be met.

What you're pointing out, inadvertently, is how this isn't really about the tangible loss to A&M and OU, it's about having to deal with the reality that you aren't top dog, something we've known about ourselves all along.

Slow down, Haus. How do you know what I'm pointing out is inadvertent? That's a side bar to my main point which is..nobody's buying a new, completely seperate network that excludes Texas. Without the up front investment, "the principal" can't be met.

Rumors surface once again connecting A&M, Sooners to SEC | CollegeFootballTalk

If true, LHN may be the smoking gun. Silve already said that they want to renegotiate their ESPN/CD deal, and the only way they can do that is by expansion...by the terms of their contract with ESPN and CBS.

I'm sure the SEC is chomping at the bit to renegotiate after watching the Pac 12 and Big 12 get big money. They're sitting on their current contract for over 10 more years...if adding teams gets their pockets fatter, I could see them making a go at it

Texas seeks to calm Big 12 rivals' concerns over Longhorn Network - ESPN

Texas trying to calm fears?

This is getting REALLY old. I just want it all to be done with. It's dizzying trying to predict what the hell will happen.

1. Will Oklahoma Leave with A&M?
2. Will Texas leave?
3. Will lawmakers tell A&M to STFU, and make OU and OSU a package deal?
4. Will all the heavy weights bail and the conference dissolve with UT going independent?

This just blows. If we're going of a BCS Conference It'd hurt Iowa State as an institution. I'd hate to see that. There's a lot that could happen though, including us moving to another conference in a package deal with KU and K-State. I will say one thing though...I'm not going to feel good about this situation until the Big 12 expands. It makes no sense to me why we're the ones being picked apart considering our history and quality programs, but it is what it is. Be the first to expand, or be the first to implode I think.

What part of only way the SEC can renegotiate their TV rights money is by expanding don't you get?

What part of this is all "Talk" by the people that be dont you get? You really believe that tv negotiations are hesitant on whether the SEC expands or not? The SEC will continue to get there money, with or without expansion.

I know that ISU has some options to pursue but unfortunately we are kind of like a kid caught in the middle of a divorce. We have little say in the whole mess and in the end we just have to wait for the results.

Weird...every other news outlet that has reported on this has gone with "A&M to SEC rumors surface" or "A&M & OU have serious concerns about advantages granted by LHN" - yet ESPN takes the angle "Texas seeks to calm Big 12 rivals' concerns over Longhorn Network.

I hate ESPiN. This is a blatant attempt to put a positive spin on their "investment" (the Big 12) when it is yet again on the brink of potentially losing a member.

By CONTRACT, they CANNOT renegotiate their TV deal unless they expand, until the end of the deal.

The SEC only has 1 option to get their money before the next decade...EXPAND.

This is year 3 of a 15 year deal with ESPN and CBS, and neither one of them will break the contract just so the SEC can get more money WITHOUT adding anything to th epot.

If I had my finger on the trigger for big XII armageddon, I'd pull it. This grade school girl crap is stupid. Let's get whatever it is over with already.

So Mike Silve lied at his Press Conference today? He made that clear as day.

Where did Mike Slive say that? I haven't seen it anywhere. He did say "It's just a number. We could be up to 16 teams in 15 minutes".

He sure doesn't seem too damn aggressive about expansion if that's what he's after.

Does everyone here really believe ESPN/ABC/Fox threw the kind of money they did at UT/TAMU/OU for 2nd tier rights only for their to be a Big 12 network that absorbs a large chunk of the 2nd tier programming?

I'd really like someone to answer that for me. No way in hell would OU/TAMU get in on a conference network - ABC/ESPN is paying them way too much to look the other way on that. If there were a Big 12 Network, what games would go on it exactly? FOX/ESPN/ABC didn't pay a butt load for the worst of the 2nd tier games.

I'd really like the above question answered. For those of you who believe that the Big 12 (minus Texas) would be best served creating a network. How? What games would go on it? FOX/ABC/ESPN paid wayyyy too much for 2nd tier games to allow a Big 12 Network.

Conference networks thrive by driving ratings from big time programs on tier 2. The Big Ten makes it work because the BTN airs OSU, PSU, & UM 2nd tier games on the network. A Big 12 Network likely couldn't even air an OU/TAMU game because those games would be 2nd tier on FOX/ESPN most weeks. Basically, the Big 12 Network would get ISU Vs. Kansas or Kansas State Vs. Mizzou. Though I'm sure that network would sell in Missouri, Kansas, & Iowa, that is FAR from enough subscriptions to support a network on a basic cable package.

ESPN paired with Fox to pay what they did to virtually guarantee a Big 12 Network didn't exist. A conference network can't happen without an inventory of games - and it will take a lot of Big 12 games to fill up the ESPN & Fox/Fox Regional networks.
