Show some love for the defense. Jesse Smith made a great interception, played very mobile in his pass coverage against the spread, was making better tackles, and got in on almost every run play. Sure the offensive players are more exciting to watch, but big 54 is looking very good. I'll agree with jaretac and say Smith gets MVP.

I have to go with Kennard Banks. Definitely a play maker, love his aggressiveness out there. I think losing him, and then having him at far less than 100% hurt us a ton.

Just as long as people recognize the fact Jerome still can't pass all that well and still won't start, but will play this fall.

Tiller isn't as polished as AA but he's got a quick release and is pretty accurate to go along with elusivenss and very good open field speed. He looks like the whole package to me and a solid back-up to AA. Like PR said, Tiller will make sure AA doesn't take his foot off the gas pedal.

Do you think we'll see him and AA on the field at the same time? I think his athleticism needs to be utilized, but there's no doubt that AA is the man at QB. It would be nice to see wildcat type stuff, or put Tiller at WR, and run some screens w/him, etc, in a Kerry Meier type role.

Probably not. I could see him being used in a John Chiles kind of role.

I agree Arnaud has been tested in fire and should start.

How you can say Jerome can't pass well after the display he put on yesterday? That last tear drop pass into the corner of endzone was a thing of beauty.

+1

Not sure about MVP but a few thoughts. Kennard Banks is a very good player. It really hurt us last year when he got injured in game one of the season.

+1 too

That was a big injury last year, it will be great to have Kennard back and hopefully he stays 100% all year and surprises some people around the big 12.

He played pretty well. But let's see him in a real game. One of the knocks on him has been his passing. I'm just saying he's not Austen and he still has a ways to come on his decision making and reads....

Chiles was Texas' backup QB. A bit more mobile than McCoy, they ran him a bit more.

I did read today that AA got split wide a few times yesterday in a wildcat type deal.

It was more of an off-set I type formation, where Robinson got the direct snap, and Schwartz was an upback. The idea (it seems) is to utilize the efficiency of the direct snap play, while having a lead blocker. It worked well on a 4th and short.

Jerome is still not accomplished enough as a passer to get a lot of snaps this year, spring game performance or not. I actually don't think Arnaud throws a great ball sometimes either. A strong arm for sure, but some of his throws are wobbly whether he is moving in the pocket or not. But nothing he or Tiller has done should move him out of the starting position.

I don't want to take anything away from the players, who have worked their tails off all spring, but how about the CyclONE Nation as the MVP??? I was really amazed by the turnout. I can't tell you how many I spring games I have been to but I don't remember many with as many in the upper deck as there were yesterday...

Yes. A great sign of support after a really tough year.:notworthy:

The players certainly seemed to appreciate it.

They really do. I ran into Jerrod Black later last night, and talked with him a little bit. He gave the impression that the fan support through the coaching change was huge to the players. We shouldn't underestimate that. It might not keep coaches around, but it means something to players...

Jerome Tiller is a superstar.
He's lightning quick. The speed he flashed on that 65 yard touchdown run was amazing. Players around him suddenly looked like they were standing still.
When he was running full speed to his left he got to the sideline and threw back across his body, 50 yards down the field. He has an amazing arm.
Jerome Tiller is the future of Iowa State football. He should be the starting quarterback right now.

ya ok good one, it was against the 2nd team D and did you watch him warm up all his passes were wobbly. You stick him in there agains't a big 12 defense and all we got is a fast guy who cant throw that well but sure had a good spring game. I think by his Junior year he will be very good but he is just not ready.
