NFL, heated fields, I hadn't heard that but makes sense! It's not surprising and has been discussed as a likely possibility for Kansas to play their home games at Arrowhead during their massive stadium renovation. The field itself will be fine; the NFL requires fields to be heated
Yes, not a good look. At this point in history one thing we can almost always count on is human hypocrisy. The one thing I hate about Baylor is the fanbase of so called "Baptists or Christians" and they stood up for and threw a fit that Art Briles was getting fired for the crap he pulled. That was insanity.
The Vikings even had to pay to have a heated field installed at TCF Bank Stadium when the team used the stadium while US Bank was under construction. The gophers now have a free heated field!NFL, heated fields, I hadn't heard that but makes sense!
Still, if KU plays at Arrowhead next year ('24), the midfield will be more abused and chunked up by December, I would think. That's 5-6 more FB games played on it by then. The field keepers will have their hands full!
Also, what will they do with the field painting? Keep it KC or alternate it KC/KU? That's a stress on the grass.
I guess what made me pause here on the heated field being a requirement, is yes, you expect that with the northern teams/fields, but "everybody"? Does this include the southern teams that have natural grass? The Vikings even had to pay to have a heated field installed at TCF Bank Stadium when the team used the stadium while US Bank was under construction. Interesting question. I don't know.
Good question. I can't say for sure about other stadiums, but Arrowhead had a heated field installed in 2016I guess what made me pause here on the heated field being a requirement, is yes, you expect that with the northern teams/fields, but "everybody"? Interesting. Thank you for 'stirring the pot', haha.Is the Buffalo Bills field heated?

The Buffalo Bills are used to seeing a ton of snow on the field during the winters, but fans are wondering if the Bills field at Highmark Stadium is heated.
Few things get NFL fans hyped like a snowy game and the Buffalo Bills are more than capable of delivering that when we get late into the season, into winter, and especially in the playoffs. And such was the case against the Cincinnati Bengals in the 2023 Divisional Round matchup.
With the snow on the ground covering much of the field, there were some spots on the yard-lines and sidelines where there wasn’t any powder covering things. And that got fans wondering about how they were doing this.
More specifically, the question was if the Bills field is heated or not.
Is the Buffalo Bills field heated?
The quick answer to that is no. Buffalo’s Highmark Stadium does not have a heating system beneath their turf. They go out and brave the true elements in the outdoors whenever they play in this type of game.
What’s interesting is that we often hear about the Frozen Tundra for Green Bay and Lambeau Field, but that stadium and field have a heating system installed beneath the field. That means that Buffalo has earned that title more so given that the Bills field is not heated.
1967Interesting. Thank you for 'stirring the pot', haha.
And I think the name Frozen Tundra for the Vikings or the Packers field probably started in the '60's or earlier even, when there was no heated fields there. Like playing on rough ice!
As far as when the Packers started heating their field, it's been longer than I thought. Somebody shared an article not too long ago. Was it in the mid or late '60's they went heated?
The population in and around Waco dwarfs the population in and around Ames. Waco alone is almost 3x the size, and D-FW area is within an hour. The population around Waco is pretty much equivalent to Ames as well. I drove to the Alamo bowl and I was astounded at how developed pretty much the whole I-35 corridor is from Dallas to San Antonio. I was expecting desert and tumble weeds for long stretches and there was very little of that.
I think it also depends on turf vs grass. I am not sure turf has to be heated. Which is why Buffalo above is not heated.I guess what made me pause here on the heated field being a requirement, is yes, you expect that with the northern teams/fields, but "everybody"? Does this include the southern teams that have natural grass?

I only looked it up because I was curious, Waco is about 2.08x bigger than Ames based on the last census. And Waxahachie is a little over an hour drive from Waco which is the very fringe of the metroplex. Most of the D-FW area is similar to the drive between Ames and Cedar Rapids. Not refuting your information, I just like looking into things like population and geography. The population in and around Waco dwarfs the population in and around Ames. I looked at population within a 50 mile radius of Ames and Waco and they were about the same, just a little under a million for both. But that would include the DSM metro for Ames and wouldn't include most of DFW. So if you go a little bit further it would definitely be a lot more around Waco. The population in and around Waco dwarfs the population in and around Ames. The not-so-frozen Tundra: the engineering behind Lambeau's famously heated field
Few football fans on the planet haven't heard of Lambeau Field's in-ground heating system. But you might not be familiar with just how huge that system is.fox11online.com
Panama Canal, Hoover Dam, Heating Lambeau Field, child's play.I think it also depends on turf vs grass. I am not sure turf has to be heated. Which is why Buffalo above is not heated.
My guess in areas the ground doesnt freeze it is not a requirement.
Some of it is to keep grass growing etc.
GB has had the stitching we did for years. They also have a cover that goes over the field that is heated and covered with grow lights.
GB field system to maintain their field is rather extensive.

You thought Iowa was the same size as Connecticut?my bad. I just looked it up and I was wrong. In my head you were the same size as CT, but you are way bigger!
Don't like the camera angle. Seems too high up to me.Can check out the new Arena on ESPN+ now.
