Hornacek?
He was an All-Star in 1992 and a 2X three point champion it looks like
Hornacek?
I can't think of any recent ISU player that would have been worthy of an all-star selection. Maybe @brentblum can confirm this.He was an All-Star in 1992 and a 2X three point champion it looks like
I was reading too fast, and omitted the "can confirm this" part.I can't think of any recent ISU player that would have been worthy of an all-star selection. Maybe @brentblum can confirm this.
I think we can look at 39 games of evidence and give Gabe and Kunc the benefit of the doubt that they weren’t “standing around”. Say what you will about Gabe, him working hard has never been questioned. It wasn’t Kunc’s best game, but wasn’t for lack of effort. It would have been one thing if they were simply going up and out-talenting us down low but a large majority of those boards were from guys like Kunc and Kalscheur kind of standing around, not grabbing balls, or waiting for it to "come to them". To UConn's credit, they hustled and were AWARE (key term) but that disparity doesn't happen if we do what we should have been
If Haliburton isn’t an all star I’d be amazed and very confused and disappointedComing to you live from the Denver Airport.

Agree. Had great position on several, and the shot would bounce long, or sideways, or straight down. Had three guys in position on one and it went straight to the one UConn guy standing there. Obviously needed to rebound way, way better to hang in that game, but the ball didn't bounce our way either.yes they killed us on the boards, but some of the loose ball rebounds they got bounced funny. There were a few times UConn just got plain lucky on how the ball bounced their way and they came up with it. Normally you would expect that kind of thing to even out over the course of a game, but this game it didn't.
While I'm very excited about our women's team and agree with 'most' of what you said in your article, Jared, including an impressive start for Soares, I can't quite 'get on board' with the Final Four potential of this team. Sure, they are going to win a TON of games. Obviously, most teams don't have 'everything', and our gals have 'alot'. But hasn't anyone else thought that we either have to be pretty consistent at post scoring PLUS three point shooting, or we won't beat the elites? Counting on good '3' pt shooting isn't a given. We don't have the gal that comes off a screen and pops a 'jump shot' like North Carolina could often do. Or drive to the basket, stop and pop the jump shot. Have we had a good jump shooter or mid-range player since Kelsey Bolte or Megan Taylor? Don't get me wrong, this team does alot of things well and I love to watch them play. I just think relying on the '3' ball (if Soares or Joens are tied up) is tough to do on a consistent basis. Obviously, if we're solid or hot from outside and getting the same contribution from Soares, yes we can beat alot of teams. Sorry, maybe the NCar game just gave me a bad taste in my mouth. Its early and I think the game at Iowa next week will speak volumes.Coming to you live from the Denver Airport.

Not to mention our infuriating penchant for giving away huge leads. While I'm very excited about our women's team and agree with 'most' of what you said in your article, Jared, including an impressive start for Soares, I can't quite 'get on board' with the Final Four potential of this team. Tinsely was probably the closest. He had a few years with some good numbers but I wouldn't say worthy of an all-star selection.I can't think of any recent ISU player that would have been worthy of an all-star selection. Maybe @brentblum can confirm this.
I'll give you one guess who leads the NBA in this statAssist/TO Ratio
1992Hornacek?
you're a lot more rational in non-gamethread.It would have been one thing if they were simply going up and out-talenting us down low but a large majority of those boards were from guys like Kunc and Kalscheur kind of standing around, not grabbing balls, or waiting for it to "come to them". To UConn's credit, they hustled and were AWARE (key term) but that disparity doesn't happen if we do what we should have been doing.
My biggest disappointment was the fundamental lapses on the things I felt like we could control. Adjusting our defense and level of pressure once guys got into foul trouble, the rebounding (above), not really trying to get Grill open coming off a monster game, and the ineffectiveness of the zone (was also an issue at times last year. On the last point, we need to be able to deploy zone with effectiveness given our defense and propensity to get into foul trouble. When we do deploy it seems like guys come out to hard, can't recover, and we give up some easy baskets.
To be honest I would take all of the above "negatives" as a trade off for Lipsey's performance and continued development. He and Holmes (who is likely our best pure scorer) need to stay out of foul trouble and stay on the floor as we are an entirely different team with them out there. With Osun we have the potential to be a lethal pick and roll team and that will hopefully open things up for Grill (who hopefully shoots well this year. If Tamin can also spot up and knock down a couple of 3s a game that will also help spread the floor.
Defense, rebounding, and staying out of foul trouble...the things we can largely control, will be crucial as the offense will likely be an issue all year long. Oh, and I have a hard time seeing UConn being any worse than a 4 seed barring injury or effort issues. Their length and athleticsm is hard for anyone to match.
