Star Wars Expanded Universe Thread

CNN's reviewer. I'd have to look up their name.

There's always going to be people who don't like it, but it's doing pretty well review wise. 94% on Rotten Tomatoes and 86 metascore, which are both really good.

I really want to love this movie, so it will have to be pretty bad for me not to like it. I really want to see Luke ignite his lightsaber and kick some ass. I'm not sure if we'll get that moment, but if we do I'll squeal like a school girl.

I hate to say it, but I tend to agree with Mark Hamill on this one and this was maybe one of the biggest reasons why I struggled through watching The Last Jedi.
It just wasn't good. I mean, there were good parts to the movie.

Kylo-Rey in the throne room, and Resistance flagship ramming the First Order flagship

But this movie dragged. I looked at my watch several times in this movie. The side stories added nothing. And I realize that suspension of disbelief is necessary for sci-fi/fantasy films. But this film broke it's own well-established rules of physics, and it relied on utter stupidity on the part of the villains in order for the good guys to win. I posted this on Reddit 8 days ago, it sums up my feelings regarding this:

I'm annoyed as hell by this movie. It takes 11th grade math to calculate two lightspeed jumps. Picture a triangle. Point A is where one of the First Order destroyers is. Point C is at the opposite end of a line segment, twice the current distance of the fleeing Rebel Fleet. (the Rebel Fleet is at the bisecting point of segment AC.)

Point B is anywhere in space that is reachable by a short jump to light speed. It is equidistant from points A and C.

Star Destroyer jumps from point A to point B. Star Destroyer jumps from poiint B to point C. Star Destroyer intercepts Resistance fleet.

Multiply the above maneuver by any number of First Order destroyers, and you now have a Resistance fleet that is encircled and helpless. You have the end of the Resistance. Not in 24 hours, not in 6 hours, but in 6 minutes.

Cinema Sins is going to have a FIELD DAY with this movie.

I wanted them to jump to light speed again and stop in the Kessel run area. Let Poe pilot after him and Fin got done fanboying all over Mr. Solo in the last movie. Lets see the First order navigate a dozen or so black holes. Could have been done similar to the asteroid field scene.

Boom, this is awesome news. Jon Favreau will be both executive producing and writing live-action Star Wars TV series next. I love Jon Favreau. The dude is a stud and obviously Disney is doing everything possible to keep him in the family, which they should. Truthfully, my #1 hope was that they would announce he would be directing a Star Wars movie, but I'll take this too.

Favreau is also voicing one of the alien characters in the Han Solo movie

Not a lot of talk about this but the cartoon Star Wars Rebels wrapped up on Monday. Great show. Honestly my favorite Star Wars story since the original trilogy. They've trademarked the title "Star Wars: Resistance" which most people think will be the next animated series and I'm guessing it takes place before TFA cronologically.

Edit: Seriously started typing my post before you posted Dig!

Any Star wars Rebels watchers in here?

The series just ended and it was pretty dang on a great way to tie in things before and after the episodes 4-6
Watched it all the way through. Great ending, but I really hope that time travel crucible doesn't become the new EUs standard MacGuffin.

I think Dave Filoni is the best story creator Lucasfilm has, I hope he gets onto another project soon.
