The
Florida Gators aren't exempt from the issue. Gators defensive coordinator Charlie Strong, one of the best assistants in the nation, might endure another offseason without a head job. Athletic Director Jeremy Foley said he hasn't been approached from a school inquiring about the services of Strong, who is black.
"I've had my name thrown out there for so many jobs," Strong said in November. "I have a job and my job is to get us ready to play."
Strong has fallen victim to a large pool of African-American coordinators and assistants who have had trouble advancing. About 12 percent (31 of 255) of Division I-A coordinators are black, as well as about 31 percent (312 of 1,018) of assistant coaches.
