Beware being enamored with Park's arm and his ability as an athlete. This is a kid who wowed coaches in 7 on 7 drills or other passing drills but was lacking in actual games or game situations. Bad accuracy. Didn't read defenses well. etc. A big arm is great but only if you have the other parts of the game down. He only completed about 50% of his passes in high school.

Well said. So many get caught up in stars and physical ability when the quarterback position is dictated by competitiveness, toughness, smarts, work ethic, and leadership skills.

The offense at Toledo was under coach Candle. I don't expect to see the exact same thing here under Manning.

I agree 100%. I think there is very small chance that Lanning plays all 720 minutes of games this year. Last year we saw that he could be good, but he didn't do anything to make us think he is the next Seneca Wallace. Therefore, I kind of want to see what Park can do also. No doubt that Lanning is the GUY going into the season, but it is Iowa State, do we really think that he will play very well and injury free the whole season??

Think I might have heard Cdub argue the same thing on a podcast earlier this year.

CAN NOT wait for football season!

I would bet anything that park is good enough to compete for the starting job. I like Joeldozer but he hasn't done anything in my eyes that would secure his starting position

(Watching Toledo film because) I'm just trying to get a preview of what our offense is likely going to be running this Fall. It is different from what Iowa State has been running the last nine years. Formations are different. Blocking schemes are different. Pass routes run are different. Run plays are somewhat different (because of the different blocking schemes.

But; then again, perhaps these coaches are not nearly as smart as I thought that they may be. They did after all bring in Jacob Park.

Agreed. The lid has potential though, and hopefully all he needs is to be coached up.
