Actually that wasn't in the post I was replying too, perhaps if that were added for context it would help clarify from "never, ever, leave" to "leave, but give notice". I know you're upset, so I'll take it easy for you on missing the obvious distinctions.

Context, ie the discussion points in a specific conversation.
If you want to use "context" to reply to me on something I haven't said and wasn't said in that conversation but might apply to some completely different part of the thread, then I think you need clarification on what context means.

Whether that fits here is debatable of course, but your flinging muck around in a way to say that you should NEVER make a change.
Yeah, probably a little extreme. I don't expect anybody to hug or kiss opponents that come into Hilton regardless of their relationship.
But I have never quit on a team mid-season and couldn't imagine quitting when I've been under contract, which I have never been. I guess the Chizick, Johnson, and Haluska situations are different as they at least waited until the end of their seasons to leave. I see absolutely no way that anyone can get ****** at Chizick or Haluska and defend Staiger.
Kids leave college all of the time to start a job. That's not a big deal. If you are onthe debate team and you decide to leave mid-season, you hurt your teammates and anybody closely associated with the debate squad, as they are depending on you. Not so much damage as not as many are closely associated with the typical debate team. Mens basketball at the Big12 level is a little different. He not only let the program down, teammates, coaches, athletic department that relies on revenues that successes and post-season appearances generate), but he also let down a passionate group of Cyclone fans that were vocal about his situation when he was ineligible, folks that chanted "Free Lucca" at games, and those that went out of their way to make sure he knew he was wanted and appreciated here when he wasn't even an eligible player on the team.
Let me ask another way. If a pro player sits out, trying to renegotiate a contract that he is under, are you applauding that player and hoping for the best for him? He is trying to better himself with the sit-out. Brett Farve improved his position and yet Packer fans hate on him.

I find it funny that so many of you are admiate about "fulfilling a commitment" and "honoring a contract" yet are rallying to fire Mac before his contract is up. The reaction by some has been embarassing. Telling a 20-something kid **** you or calling him any of a number of dirty names I have seen is plain ridiculous. It is almost comical to watch people show much of a fan they are by thinking of something a tad bit more vulgar than was posted before.
I would love to see how dedicated to all of your convictions some of you were when you were a junior in college. I know, everyone is going to come back with "he quit on his team" and "the timing was terrible", but in the end he made a career decision. It's time for me to come clean, I switched my major when I was a junior in college. Does this make me a bad person because I made committment to the education department in declaring my original major?
I know this opinion is not a popular one, but I would at least figure many of you have the decency to avoid name-calling and using derrogitory language. He was faced with a choice: to continue playing for a middle-of-the-road Big 12 team, or make 6 figures back home. I don't find his decision that shocking or bizzare. I love Iowa State just as much as the next guy, and this decision definitely sucks, but I would hope some of you act your age in the coming days.

You guys who are defending Lucca are ridiculous. I don't have much of a problem with him leaving. It's the timing and the fact that he had a recent break to do it. He also was contemplating last summer whether to come back or not. He obviously didn't want to. He should have just stayed over there. I just have a major problem with him quitting the day before a game and 4 days before what he knows it is a huge game all this when he knows we are thin anyway. He left this team hanging. There is not other way to put that. If he quits a month ago this is not nearly as big of a deal but since then we have had 1 suspension, and 2 season ending injuries. The timing of this is just terrible. I can understand why he came back this fall. It makes no sense to me.
No even close to the same. You weren't helping to bring in big money for the school. You stayed in school so your tuition is a wash. You didn't have the whole school behind you for a year and paying your tuition to see you not play.
I think there is an emotional attachment to Lucca because of the first year. Maybe more of an attachment to him than Craig. Attachment may not be the correct word, but I think the fanbase felt he owed them something because of the support for that first year. I don't think he owed me anything. I don't think he owed the fanbase anything. I do, however, think he owed that team something. I think he at least owed them the decency of giving some kind of notice. I do not expect anything from a player as far as being on or off the teams goes. I do support the Cyclones, though, and when you do them, as a team, wrong, that kind of pisses me off.

1.5 years of underacheiving basketball play, and a greaseball quit-job in the middle of the season will do that.
I can understand that to an extent, and would even agree with it to a point if it wasn't for the rest of the **** that goes on around this board daily depending on which way the wind is blowing.
