Go with the Yamaha. I have one I use for multiple zones (667, I think). It sounds great and I have never had any problems with it.

I routinely work with an AV guy on high end apartments in NYC and recently just bought my system after doing a bunch of research. I ended up with a Denon AVR-1912. I was actually going to get the 1612 version since I only need 5.1 and didn't care too much about the ipod integration, but ended up splurging on it anyway since I was getting it for dealer cost and I run an apple airplay system already. Paired the receiver with Definitive Technologies Pro Cinema 600s (didn't have to pay for these or I would have gotten the Energy Take Classic 5.1) and a Panasonic 55" vt30 plasma. I really wish this stuff would get here as I'm chomping at the bit to get it set up.

Just my opinion but I tend to spend a lot on the speakers rather than the receiver. Good speakers last forever. I've had the same nht speakers for the last 10 years. When I moved to a bigger room I just made my front speakers my surround.

Just my opinion, but, I have always spent more percentage wise on my source equipment. I think a better source vs not so good speakers is far better than a not so good source and good speakers.
Again just my opinion.

It's a lot easier to buy a bad speaker than a bad receiver. Hook up a $10K A/V receiver to a $100 Koss or Bose speaker and it will sound like crap.

Hook a $200 receiver up to a pair of middle of the road speakers and you'll get good sound.

In a perfect world, spend a lot on both.

On the other end of the scale, Audio Video Logic in Urbandale is having a 35% off sale on some speakers.

TAD - Audio Video Logic

For $78,000 you get the pair. They better put these things in a safe.

I don't know if you bought anything yet but I just got a sale notice from newegg that seems to be a pretty good deal for someone on a budget.

Pioneer VSX-821-k $179

Pioneer seperate speakers that add up to 5.1 $300

I'd rather buy this combo for less than $500 than a HTIB for a similar price.
