just get rid of cyclone alley on both sides and call it good. one can be the alley and the other not. I'm so tired of cyclone alley.

This coming from the person that never goes to games.

You must have me confused with someone else. I don't miss many games.
Looking over at the east send balcony student sections Saturday, it's hard to justify giving student better seats.

Why? From a non-student perspective I think it looks/works pretty good.

The cost and the fact that they partnered with the SAA so you have to pay for that too. And I get tired of having to wear the same shirt to all games.

I'm probably just going to get the 99 dollar balcony seats next year. Get tickets to all the games and i won't have to sit in the alley.

how about the season ticket holders? seems like the students would fill their prime seats more than they do currently.

So would the donors (like me and thousands of others) keep up their current level of NCC giving just to go sit in the balcony? You really think so?
Lots of the students seem to be texting and chatting on their cell phones more than cheering anyway. Would that change?

I don't know anything about the cost or SAA but the shirt thing is a lame excuse. If you wear a t-shirt under it you wouldn't have to wash it all year. I wouldn't have when I was in college even without the t-shirt:wink:

But, if students are going to start leaving CA and getting balcony seats something needs to change.

I did that this year. I'm already forking over the money for out of state tuition, plus FB and BB tix. I'm not gonna pay an extra $50 for CA. I just can't afford that.

Looking over at the east send balcony student sections Saturday, it's hard to justify giving student better seats.

I remember 2 yrs ago after when they redid the student sections, someone ask Pollard at a luncheon if he had plans to do something for the women's games like he had done for the men's student section (Cyclone Alley). He replied that it was too difficult enough to get students to come to the men's games. That 300-400 student season tickets were paid for by Mommy and Daddy (his words) were never picked up and perhaps he would in the future sell the balcony seats above the Cyclone Alley to the general public for $99. He would take less money but have butt's in the seats (again, his words). I was sorry to hear that about student apathy.
So 2 yrs ago, Pollard did just that. I bought 4 first row balcony seats just for the hell of it, sold off 2 seats and kept two to sell or give to friends when needed.

My other seats for yrs were on the wrong side of the student section when they were in the North parquet section. Great fans, but always standing up and blocking everyone else's view of the game when the action was played on the East end.

The student section is fine right where it is. I highly doubt it will ever change to where students are mingled in with donor seats again cause $MONEY$ IS WHAT IS GOING TO DRIVE THIS ISSUE.

I learned a long time ago that someone is always going to be better looking than me, have more money than me and going to have better seats than I do. It isn't going to change just cause the students want it to change.

Somewhere in the U.S.
I can remember when a couple of the sections of the parquet on the north side were student sections, and as Majorcyfan mentioned above, there were complaints from the season ticket holders in the parquet sections to the west of these student sections that their view was blocked whenever the game moved to the east end. This affected the people in the upper rows of the section.

Here is what I would suggest. JP sends out a letter to all season ticket holders, including companies, requesting volunteers who are willing to relocate their seats to the corner parquet or even end parquet sections. Depending on the number of positive responses he gets, he then moves season ticket holders around to free up the top 2 or 3 rows, or whatever he can, in as many of the side PARQUET sections as needed. Those seats can then be given to students.

This would accomplish a couple of things. Students would be on the side, and more spread throughout Hilton. Their enthusiasm might help more of the ticket holders in the side seats get into the game. By putting them in the top rows, you don't have to worry about the standing up and blocking anyone's view. The noise will still be there. They don't have to be that close to the court.

Another thing to consider would be to open up all seating sections after halftime, and allow students (or anyone sitting in the balcony) to move into any empty seats closer to the action for the second half of the game. This would put students closer to the action in what could be a critical second half, and would fill in the lower sections for the end of the game. This would have to be done with the understanding that if the person actually holding the ticket for the seat showed up, then the other person would have to relocate. I'm not sure how the season ticket holders would react to this, but I'm guessing many would be in favor of it. Some of course would not. Just an idea.

dryburn says this:

This might work, similar rule is used in preseason ISU games and is or was the general rule at the Big 12 tourney.

I think before we even think about Student Section Change, we have to bring up the topic of the students themselves. My sister goes to UIllinois, and i have been to one of their basketball games. It is quite a different experience, i mean in our cyclone alley we have guys/gals who put up signs during an opponents free throw shot that we follow, at UIllinois the people there instructed us before the game started on the different things to do. What im trying to say is that they have more "spirit" then the students at our games.

For example, when i went to Saturdays game there were so many students that were sitting down during the game while everyone else was standing up. Then there were plenty that werent cheering or as active as others. Even the student section at the bands side wasnt as energetic in the 2nd half. I think this mentality needs to change, we need those sign holders to do other creative stuff during the games, chant new things and just walk around encouraging all those dull fans in the section. I get so ****** when i just see students that just came cause they got a free shirt from a friend and just stand there and clap and sit down. Which also reminds me, we shouldnt always be sitting down in ALL of the timeouts, i think we should still be screaming, and rattling up the Hilton during those times. At UIllinois its like 24-7 screaming and hollering even if the teams down by 20. Plus i would love to have props to wear that are actually meaningful, im tired of getting those signs that have 3 written on them. I dont think i saw anyone use them on Saturday.

But i would love to see a student section behind our teams bench, that would be great.

Would like to see either one or two sections behind basket continue... and then either one or two sides all the way around just for the first five rows. This would go up to the cement barrier. Students should still be able to stand and people behind them should still be able to sit. Get rid of the upper deck student section ASAP.

Not so much.

You'd only be able to use the first two rows, and maybe the third. There's not enough of a vertical dropoff like there is at other arenas (Illinois and Michigan State come to mind).

The students will never get on the sides in the parquet or in the arena circle. Why? Because tickets are $400 with a minimum donation of $2,500 in the parquet and $5,000 or $10,000 for area circle seats. There is absolutely no way the AD sacrifices those seats so they can sell $100 student tickets.

First off there is no way you the students will get any of the sidelines. People pay too good of money for the athletic department to even contemplate that. Second, the students need to fill the sections they have to the top for EVERY game before they even think of reconfiguring. I for one want to see the student section so full that they have to do something to get all of you in the lower level but too many times lately there have been noticable empty seats for some games, especially the weekday games and non-conference games. Doesn't give you any leverage for "upgrading" when you can't even fill the seats you have now.

I don't suppose the fact that we only made two 3-point baskets in the first 37 minutes of the game would have anything to do with that. Hey, nobody's stopping you from going to town on that '3' sign- wave that sucker and SCREAM ALL. GAME. LONG!

But seriously, people like you that come in and start ******** and moaning annoy the **** out of me. I am ALL for crazed, rabid, insanely active fans, but I don't believe for a cotton-pickin' second that you did any of the things that you're belittling the student section for not doing. The fact that you even know how many students were standing, or sitting, or clapping, or screaming, or not being involved just proves that you paid more attention to other people than to the game itself. What's more, you were obviously sitting high up enough to see all this. How about you get down off your regal white hobby-horse and come down to the front row like a real fan, instead of ******** from on high? In the front row, you can scream and foam at the mouth all you want, PLUS you can't see what any other students are doing!

I bet you weren't even standing the whole game. Go to hell.

Defensive are we? Don't kill anybody when you are running around the upper concourse.
