I feel like we have this thread every year. The student section always looks worse because the students pack forward. The student section also takes a bit of time to recover from crappy years like we had under prohm as habits rebuild with new fans (It is already a lot better this year than last year). There were lots of open seats scattered around even the lower level. I had 5 or so right next to me in my section. Others were covered up by random coats scattered around.

People who want to decrease the number of student tickets sold dont understand what makes college sports great.

Disagree on the hard to watch part. Watch both ends of the floor.
Imagine being so upset about missing a game and the solution is skipping the next one.
I didn't make a car sale today, so I decided to not greet the next customer
You sound super smart. You must know everything about offense AND defense. I guess I should just keep my stupid opinions to myself. Not like I have two students at ISU or have a valuable perspective to offer.

You realize there is a tendency to lose interest when you've been turned away, right? Also, only so many tickets are sold, so some freshmen don't even get them. We're actively doing things to decrease interest in attending games for students. Looks great on TV when we have tents outside for KU, but think about having to show up that early for a game. It's really a bunch of ********. Its their school and team, and the athletic dept is screwing it up big time.

Side note - this team is hard to watch.
Seven top 25 wins is hard to watch?

Serious offer here, next time your student gets shut out, message me and if it's at least 30 minutes before tip I will send a ticket your direction or meet him at the entrance gate. After that, I will likely already be inside Hilton

The problem is that the point I underlined and the point I bolded are opposing issues. If they sell tickets to every student that wants them, that means more students are going to get turned away for big games. In order to stop turning students away for big games, then they need to only sell as many tickets as there are student section seats available.

I do like the idea that others have mentioned to have students claim tickets early and implement some sort of point system for games where the student section gets completely filled. But that's probably easier said than done (even though I know some places do it already). It would probably also result in complaints of a different form as well. I don't think there's a solution that works perfectly for everybody.

Eh, the more years you watch the more you can appreciate good defensive teams but offense is what gets more people going (and what really gets Hilton going to 100% potential). This year is certainly better than last year, but there are still scoring droughts that take Hilton out of things

I disagree greatly with this team being hard to watch. There are frustrating moments for sure, but that's the nature of nearly every sports team unless they are some generational powerhouse.

For me, "hard to watch" is reserved for teams that are not only bad, but also don't show a lot of effort. This team has struggles, but I'd never put it in the same hemisphere as some of the past ISU basketball or football teams.

I’m not sure if the constant transfers of players make a difference to both the student crowd and other fans. My son that started ISU the same year as Georges and Naz had a lot more interaction with the basketball team than my youngest son who graduated last year, but a lot of those Hoiberg guys stayed around. There may be less of a fan connection across college basketball when it seems like a whole different team every year.

I think there is a lot of truth to this. It’s kinda a bummer that college basketball is turning this way.

We started in section 207 on the corner and moved over to the middlish in section 209 very back row. Was nice because we could stand the whole game if we wanted. Crowd was very mild, we had one point where we were starting to get loud and they called a timeout but besides that pretty quiet crowd.
We watched on TV and I thought it seemed like it was more quiet than normal.

Although the student section was quieter than usual. The student section went at Eddie Lampkin. They were pretty loud when they were chanting for Eddie. It got to a point to when one of the security guards had to tell some of the fans to stop.

We started walking out from the top row of the balcony with 20 seconds left in the game and had 0 issues getting out of D3 and still didnt make it home till 11:00 on the northside of Johnston. I can see why anyone with kids would not attend a 8pm weeknight game.
This - absolutely this 100%.

I LOVE being closer to Ames (spent 10 years in MN) and LOVE that I have season tickets, but sometimes you're just not feeling it and that's OK. I didn't want to deal with game traffic and not getting home till 1130 last night so I stayed home.

I don't remember which year, but there was a Baylor game in the Hoiberg days they sold GA ticks to that led to me and a buddy showing up at our normal time to sit in the first few rows of the upper deck of the student section and ended up in the last row. I was pissed at the time, but it worked.

Do you still have to be a “member” of Cyclone Alley to get to sit in the lower level as a student? It was thing when I was in school and it just completely turned me off of going as a student. Like I got there early enough to sit in the lower level just let me sit there.

Love going to live events but I wouldn't spend money to sit in one of the top rows of the upper deck especially in the corners or behind the basket. You get more than halfway up the balcony at Hilton and you are a long way from the court. Unless its a real big game its always going to be a challenge to fill those seats when you can watch on a 60 inch HDTV at home or at a bar.
