perfect, Ill listen, I feel like he is the reverse of jamey johnson, he started out with commercial hits then went into making amazing non commercial music where ss just makes non commercial music and will probably just keep doing that. I never like a JJ album on first listen but after a week I cant stop talking about it.

Any word after the listens? Call to Arms is only on the NPR early release. But I ******* love that song. Might be my favorite SS song.

Wow, this album is so well, and has to be a concept album!!! The orchestra tracks and so well produced with his style of vocals. This is easily album of the year so far for me as well.

Good stuff. Got through the second listen this morning. My favorites are the In Bloom cover and the opening track (not sure of the title).

Felt like I had to bump. I was looking for new music to get into and I remembered this thread. I downloaded all three albums a couple days ago and they are all I've been listening to.

Love his sound, it's authentic and sincere and that's awesome now when you can go three hours on country radio and not hear one song that doesn't seem fake as ****.

I do consider myself more of a country traditionalist, so I think I like his albums in order of older to newer, as High Top Mountain is definitely more of a "pure" country sound. You Can Take The Crown, Life Ain't Fair, and Some Days are probably my favorites as of now, but I don't think there's a bad song on there.

Metamodern and Sailor's Guide are more of concept albums to me. While I like both of them, I don't think I'll be able to listen to them all the way through like I can with High Top Mountain. Just a few tracks that are a little too alternative for me. Not bad, and certainly better than bro/****** country, but just not my style I guess.

Anyway, I love finding artists I hadn't heard from before, and this is a guy I hope to hear more from in the future. So thanks to all who contributed in this thread.

I think each album has a little bit of a reinvention attempt while keeping his roots in his sound. There is a really good interview from him and Merle Haggard in Rolling Stone or some other music zine that summarizes his style and views on music
