Interesting read. I'm not sure the money adds up for all of the conferences to expand to 16.

The other thing I don't get about 16 team conferences is how they are going to scheduler their games. If they play 7 division games and 2 interdivision games they would only play teams from the other division every 4 years if they don't do home/home. If two major rivals end up on opposite sides that really kills a big revenue game. I don't think anyone is willing to go to more than 9 conference games either for money reasons.

I guess we'll see what happens.

That is not a bad idea. I would rather expand the Big 12 to 16 teams but what can you do?

.

They would try to keep major rivals in the same division or a protected rival like what the BIG 10 is doing.

The state of Texas should just form it's own conference. Texas, A&M, Tech, Baylor, North Texas, Rice, Houston, SMU, TCU, and UTEP. No one will care about 8 of the teams in the conference, but that should make both Texas and A&M happy.

They already tried that.

I feel schools that are not a FB powerhouse will put up a fight when conferences try to go to 16 schools. Going to 16 team conferences will kill some football programs. It will also make some middle of the road programs bad and some above average programs average.

He might put ISU in the Big 10 but no conference university President will and thats really all that matters.

I assume you are a conference university President?

If it came down to academics and geography, like it should, we would fit in just fine with the Big 10

LOL. Someone speculates on a scenario that benefits ISU and Hawk-trolls magically show up.

Speculation isn't so fun when it doesn't **** on ISU and benefit Iowa is it? Tool.

In academics and geography we are a great fit with the Big 10. But we'd be kidding ourselves if we thought that mattered.

The other thing I don't get about 16 team conferences ...

I think cyhiphopp was pointing out how the economics of 16 teams doesn't work, but then went on to elaborate on the 16 team concept. Thus everyone started talking about 16 teams.
The article (and the one on FoxSports) outlines 18 team super conferences.

Hmmm...an 18 team super conference: Where have I heard that before?

Presidents would. Ads wouldn't ISU fits in an academic sense, just not a monetary one. But if you use the monetary argument, Iowa pulls the least amount of TV contract weight in the Big 10 now, so don't act so high and mighty.

I worked thru some of the superconference scenarios in NCAA12 last night. It was interesting...

I realized that the Big12+?? can not exist at the same time as a Pac16 or Pac18. The Pac16 might end up with quality programs BYU & BSU, but after that -- Hawaii? SDSU? UNLV? Nevada?

I like the solidarity statements this week from B12 members, but the monster needs to be fed B12 bodies. To say the B12 will survive you must assume the B12 can provide value in terms of TV contracts sufficient to stare down superconsolidation. Yikes.

I love my alma mater, but it's true, due to our TV draw and regional fan base taking ISU to the B10 will only happen if the lights come on and it's a choice between us and upgrading a CUSA/Sun Belt/MAC team.

Correct..my biggest fear is the PAC12. They are locked into poaching Big12 schools. There is no way they raid the Big East. Like said above...Lets just say they got BSU and BYU (which I am not sure they want). THey still need 2 more. Tex, OU, OSU, KU, Mizzou, K-State, BU and ISU will be there only options. Otherwise they have to go into the Eastern Time zone.
