Being a "controversial" radio show personality requires broadbrushing the views of groups (fanbases), and picking on the most radical of those as if it were the entire fanbase's. This is what Perrault did. It's also why I don't care for Colin Cowherd.

It is why I like Murph and Andy - they do a good job of realizing not every ISU fan thinks the same way, and/ or is a koolaid drinker.

I think that FH somewhat inadvertently painted himself into a corner with the improvement that was made with this years players and all of the transfers that he added. Because most of these transfer players have had at least moderate success at the previous schools people automatically expect the same or better results once they set foot on the floor in Hilton next year. If FH had taken a more traditional approach of recruiting HS players (not saying that I would have wanted this) people may have given him more slack and not expected major results until years 3-4 instead of yr 2.

Whether this is fair to FH or not I think that ISU fans and the media in general expect ISU to at least be in the top 1/2 if not the top 1/3 of the B12 in 2011-12. I think for sure anything less than a NIT will cause a stink and for some anything less than a trip back to the Dance will be a letdown.

The good news is that I think Fred, staff and players are up to the challenge.

Travis makes it seem like people are expecting a B12 Championship next year. I hate when people exagerate(sp) other people's thoughts in order to argue about them.

I was thinking the same thing. I have not heard a single person or read a single post from a Cyclone fan predicting a Conference Championship.

He made it up so he could shoot it down.

Fred expects success as much as the fans. That's why Mac never would have worked. His goal was 5th place in the conference. If a coach doesn't want high expectations for his program then he needs to find a program that isn't in danger of having them.

I agree, a goal of or hoping for a middle of the pack finish is unacceptable in my mind. The goal should always be to win. Now with that you need to be realistic in expectations. The goal is to win every game but a NCAA berth is acceptable because that means we at least have a chance to battle for the ultimate prize.

I'm trying to keep my expectations tempered a bit because I've learned my lesson over the years being a Cyclone.

We haven't won a Big 12 tournament game in years and haven't sniffed the NCAA tournament in the same time frame. I want to see us end that Big 12 streak and get into the dance...anything on top of that will be gravy.

I have a new name for the t n t show. The Man Boobs Show... :wideeyed:

Its kind of a play off The Man Cow Show...
I thought it was a play off "The Man Show" with Jimmy and Adam. Although I don't want to see Travis and Tim jumping on a trampoline.

I don't know that he's painted himself into a corner. What really happens if ISU goes to the NIT or worse, stays home? Nothing. Fred has a leash a mile long. He doesn't have to worry about getting fired...ever. He'd quit before it ever got to that point.

Fans are going to be excited about this season and I fully expect JP to fan the flames. I do think that the trip to Italy is VERY important to team chemistry as is participation in the CCL.

But as far as the comment, I'm going to go into the season not expecting much. I'm plenty worried about replacing 3 of our top 4 scorers and frankly it won't surprise me if we don't end up with 4 or 5 of the players that we currently think we will have. I'm also worried about this team jelling and chemistry issues.

I'm not. Don't forget these guys (the transfers at least) have been together for almost a year now and have been practicing with the team for the last 6-7 months. They've basically gone through a season together...they just haven't stepped onto the court.

I guess I meant that he has set the bar high as far as expectations and what will be viewed as a success vs a failure. Say what you want but if we end up staying home next year people will be ******** and complaining that FH should fire this assistant or that assistant etc.

I agree that FH has a long leash, I disagree that he doesnt have to EVER worry about getting fired. He may very well quit if things were to ever get that bad but if he didnt sooner or later ISU would have to make a move even though he is an icon.

I hate all of this negative talk, that wasnt my intention with this at all. My point was that he has set a very high expectation with this years "success" and the talent that was brought in to win right away.

My expectations for next year are a top 4 finish in the conference and an NCAA tourney bid. I believe those to be "realistic", which seems to be the word people like to use. However, if we don't meet those expectations, I'm not gonna lose my **** about it as long as they give it their all like this year's team did.

Exactly. Im not sure we will have the experience and talent combination to make the NCAAs next year, but I do expect next years team to play very hard.

I am just hoping for a Big 12 season that includes some wins. It seems like forever since we've really beaten mutliple teams not named Colorado/Nebraska.

IF YOU WERE A REAL CYCLONE FAN, YOU WOULD BELIEVE!!!!!

Well, maybe that was over the top. Or maybe not. But we'll never lose again. In fact, I'm not sure now that we ever have.

We haven't lost. In fact it is impossible for us to lose.
