I asked specifically if it was coach K and he said no. He said it was a new guy they were bringing in, he just couldn't think of the name at the time.

Not discrediting your source or statement, but if this is indeed true this is bad. Reading between the lines it means it's a nobody if a recruit close to the situation can't remember the name of the hire! That means it was not one of the bigger names that we all had our hope set upon.

I honestly think it is coach K but that's my opinion. As there have been multiple reports that point to this. You did say take it for what it's worth, so your clear!

Not necessarily true at all. You might be surprised at how few OC names a recruit can rattle off, aside from those programs whom the recruit is interested in.

This guys position coach is going to be coach K, so I would think he would know that. Theres always that chance he was wrong, but who knows. Just figured I would relay the information over here since I was excited to hear it.

Not necessarily true either. If you were specifically told who it was you would remember that name. I agree with you about the fact that they don't remember all of the coordinators from the schools that recruit them. I would suspect that they would know who it was to the school that they commited to!

Am I wrong in thinking if Rhoads hire a new guy from outside the program, Rhoads needs to hire a new offensive line coach as well? Maybe coach K is fantastic, but I get the feeling he was running a different system on the OL than (Herman and) Mess were. The result was not having all coaches on staff on the same page and it looked like mass confusion at times.

Whoever we hire needs to rip out the old stuff and totally revamp the offense.

If It's coach K, fine. Great. But let him run his pistol offense the way he knows how. Don't make him run some bull **** Herman/Mess/Pistol combination offense.

He said a new guy, not a current player. Maybe the staff told some players on a need to know basis to firm up commitments. Thanks for the info.

Because if we know 1 thing its that 17-24 year old kids - especially those NOT currently signed to the team - can keep secrets.

Sincerely, every kid who slept with his teacher and was told not to say anything.

Was told tonight by a future player at isu that our oc is a new guy, not someone on staff. Told me coach K was not the oc.

Thanks for relaying what you heard. Try to ignore all the D-bag replies.

Did the player say anything more?

Sorry didn't see your question til now. I also asked him who else offered him. He said Cincinnati and Texas. I went on to say wow you turned down Texas? He said he preferred the smaller town.

Its very possible (or probable) that he just didn't want to say. He was most likely already told not to say anything about the hire and just bailed himself out by saying he "couldn't remember the name".

Not really. If they've never heard of the guy before, it would be easy to forget the name. And just because they may never have heard of the guy doesnt necessarily mean he's a no namer. I couldnt tell you who Arizona State's, or Indiana's, or Texas A&M's, or Washington's OCs are, and all those programs are scoring at or near 40 points a game. OCs are usually not household names.....except to die hard fans and/or forum squatters.

Thanks for your info.

Have to admit, I also kinda enjoyed all of the "read too much into it" posts...

Although the players could be told to keep things hush, hush and they are just messing with you and ultimately us!

You just never know. Mind games can be a beotch!

I'm not sure why but I really want the new OC not to be an internal hire.

i agree. Think coach K and or Sturdy could be pretty good if it came down to that. But I prefer someone, from the outside, who has proven themselves with recent success at the position. Someone that has steadily been climbing the coaching ladder because of the continuous success that they've had at all their stops along the way.

Thanks to the OP for the information, I do appreciate this type of stuff - so please don't be too offended when I say that I'm skeptical that a specific person has been in some way selected, but we've yet to hear anything from Chris, Bobby LaGesse, Trey Scott, or others close to the program about who (outside of Klenakis) is a legitimate name.

I'm not calling you a liar - I don't doubt that you talked to a recruit. I'm just skeptical that none of the media have heard anything - and we can be certain that they are digging for the scoop every day and night.
