For the record, and many of us know this, we have had four first-rounds picks ever...

Fizer
Tinsley
Brackins
White

If Wigginton or THT (or even Tyrese) were to elevate themselves to that status, it would be a pretty special moment for the program and those young men.
Not sure where you got your info but Don Smith and Jeff Grayer were 1st rounders.

Nobody would be saying that.

We do have at least one fan that is still b!tching about making the Sweet 16 three seasons ago. It's not a giant leap for me to imagine he and a few others downplaying a Final Four, especially since it would be with a coach who isn't the Favorite Son.

A final four and a sweet 16 are totally different. Don’t be ridiculous, everyone would be astonished that we finally made a final four.

And here I thought the meltdown prior to regular season games couldn’t be topped. I suppose it is never too early to worry about the horror that is having different opinions on an Iowa State performance.

I remember Mitch McGary from Michigan & how he had a series of great Tourney performances - propelling UM to the championship game (2013?). His draft stock skyrocketed. This is what would be a dream scenario for us: THT takes his game to the "next level" night after night in the Tourney and we make the Final Four (& perhaps beyond) - even if that means he leaves for the NBA after this season.

**** McGary.

Gary Thompson was the 35th pick in the 1957 draft. But since there were only 8 teams at the time, he was taken in the 5th round.

He chose to play AAU instead which started his lifelong relationship with Phillips 66.

Lol, this is the most ridiculous statement I've seen on here in quite some time. I would be the first to want Prohm getting a statue outside Hilton if this ever happened.

If Tyrese and THT are first-rounders then I am more confused about NBA basketball than ever before. I just don't understand what anyone sees in them for being potential first-rounders in this draft. Both are great players with a lot of potential, but neither are anywhere close to being first-rounders IMO.

You’re confused. The first round is mostly based on pontential.

NBA drafts on potential. What many forget about those two is the level they are playing at for their age. THT is one of the youngest division one players, and he is playing out of position on defense, often guarding the other team’s Power Forward.

But what is Talen’s potential as an NBA player? He’s got a lot of developed skills in his bag already. A lot depends on what he turns into physically. He’s just a strange prospect when it comes to projection.

I would like to agree with you wholeheartedly. But I've seen some absolutely ridiculous things on this board, and that would be par for the course in this place.

It’s his mind catching up with his body. Once that happens and he starts making 40% of the two point shots he currently misses because he can’t slow down mentally just think of how he would score the ball. Plus a little jump in his 3 point shooting with just reps and he will be good.

Also once he gets more experience he will stop letting guys get by him to block their shot and start using his length to deny ball and deny space. THT has a ton of untapped upside imo.

Plus just think of what’s out there for him this summer with USA basketball and the draft workouts if we get him back he could be some kind of monster next season.

Hilton was as electric as I've ever seen when McGary and Ejim checked in almost at the same time when a lot of people assumed neither would play.
It was like whoa, then oh boy, here we go.

Yeah, the NBA drafts on potential, 100% agree.

Tyrese isn't a top-level athlete so that limits his potential. He needs to work on his skill-set to offset that to raise his potential. 2-3 years of college to work on the skill-set and his body will do him wonders.

THT is a tweener at 6-4. He can cause some mis-match issues with his size and length which has a lot of appeal, but at 6-4 he needs to be a much better perimeter shooter and ball-handler to make it in the league. He has the height of an NBA guard and his shooting and ball-handling are that of an NBA wing/forward, which limits his potential.

They are both 3-4 year guys IMO.
