"Always kind of liked Iowa State, but damn ... their fans are almost as delusional as Wake Forest's. Why is there this strange disdain for the Fighting Illini on boards of fans that we literally never encounter in real life. I think one fan on their board actually said THT would be a "big fish in a small pond" at Illinois ... we could be bad for the next 20 years and still have a much better history, much bigger fan base, much bigger media presence and much bigger stage than Iowa State. That's not being a hater, they're just already a little brother in a tiny state in a conference with less national exposure than the Big Ten. Also, I am TOTALLY willing to admit that the Illini brand has suffered since 2008, and we need to prove ourselves again to regain the respect we were all used to enjoying, but jeez ... how can fans be THIS baffled when an instate recruit is at least somewhat enticed by the idea of making Illinois basketball good again? Playing for an Illini program that's a contender >>>>>>>>>>> playing for an Iowa State program contender if you grew up in Illinois; the battle is just convincing the recruits that we have the pieces to get back, and it doesn't take an Illini homer to think we are headed in the right direction. Rant over."

"I spent some time living in Iowa... can definitively say that ISU fans suffer from a serious inferiority complex. Their sports teams have been scrappy and exciting to watch, but as fans they find themselves punching up to the likes of Iowa and most other BXII programs. They probably deserve more respect as a basketball program, but KU exists. As a release valve for the shade that gets thrown to them, they're unusually toxic fans.

I have no beef with ISU fans. Don't feel targeted by them - they're just acting the way they always have."

To the Illinois fan, that I’ve never met while living in Chicago- Xavier is the small pond.

It’s hard to take Illinois fans seriously. Sure, Iowa may have less people, but at least we’re the main attraction. They’re not relevant in their own state.

What is the Illinois brand right now to high school kids I wonder. Even I have to go way back into the memory bank to remember when they were good. They've been irrelevant for a long time now.
My first thought, after their awesome EE comeback against Arizona, is how Jereme Richmond was the biggest basketball prospect out of Chicago-land since D-Rose and he flamed out harder than any I can remember.

Sooooooo mad. Going to be tough for them when they don't get THT.

That’s an awfully bad spot to be in. Directionless middle-ring suburbanites living in their POS 1970’s bi-levels that can’t get into their first 5 schools.

This is just funny. Short of Brucies championship run with Bill Self's recruits I can't even think of a time when I thought, yeah Illinois, they are a program with tradition. They have had little to no sustained success in my lifetime. I have two siblings that went there and I can tell you from experience that there was more excitement in Hilton for the McDoormat years than there was the year after that run at Illinois. College sports are not nearly as big in that state as they are in Iowa. Short of a few diehards it is a bandwagon fan base for any and all sports in that state. No shot what soever that they have a bigger fan base of actual fans.

Right now, in terms of basketball, they are behind the ****** Chicago Bulls (who might not hit double digits in wins) and Northwestern in terms of interest. They are hardly in a position to call us out for being "little brother".

Based on his tweet...he's going to Illinois. That's the only school where he's pictured in real life wearing their jersey. Both Xavier and ISU just got cartoon versions.. He gone.

If I were a recruit considering Xavier, I'd be less concerned about where the games are televised and more concerned about the weird chili on top of spaghetti thing.

What the heck is this? I've never heard of it. Talen, you can't live amongst these savages.

THT ain't going to Ilinois, they need to understand that. It's ISU or Xavier IMO

Hah, now I don't hold any disagreement with your sentiment shared, but ending a firm declaration of fact with "IMO" sort of negates the whole message.
