When then (non) targeting play happened I don't believe there was a flag thrown but someone called for a review.
Question- If replay had ruled a targeting call, there would have been a personal foul penalty? Correct?

I think so. I thought it was weird that there was no flag. Maybe there was and the announcers didn't mention it.

You are correct. I don't know what the replay booth was looking at, but that sure looked like targeting to me.

I honestly didn't think the first one was targeting, although I definitely thought we had a fumble.

The later one on Purdy, if that's not targeting, I don't know what is.

I'm normally one to defend officiating but it's really getting frustrating that there seems to be no rhyme or reason and they can't even get replay calls right.

Not exactly sure.
Remember, this is OSU stadium. Where the replay official bent the goal line and overruled saying the runner did break the goalline plane.

The problem is either A) nobody knows what "targeting" actually is and can recognize it when they see it in order to be able to call it, or B) Cooper Castleberry had money on the game. I don't recall either "targeting" call actually flagged on the field.

The second (the hit on Purdy) happened right in front of Castleberry and he didn't even flinch. The replay official had to buzz down to start the review and it was very late, right before the snap of the next play.

College officiating and NFL officiating on are two completely ends of the spectrum. It's just stupid.

Watching the replay and just now hearing the commentators reaction to the hit on Purdy. Couldn't hear them in the noisy gamewatch bar. My reaction in the bar was much like their's, that it looked like what they call as targeting or helmet/helmet like 100% of the time. But when they go to replay it's like NO ONE knows WTF the outcome will be. Might as well let the coaches call a coin flip.

That call on Benton was NFL like.

I don’t think it’s a coin flip, it’s generally targeting if at all questionable. Which is why it’s unfathomable they missed that call on replay twice, in particular the hit on Purdy. Like the announcers discussed, they are to error on the side of protecting the defenseless player.

Less infuriating, but I could be convinced that was a fumble.

I knew those egregious missed calls would come once I saw Castleberry out there.
