TCU Game Predictions

I was at the game at TCU and this team looks much different than they did when Bowie was starting. The defense in the post was terrible that day. Most of the buckets came on poor box outs, switches, and just lack of concentration on the defensive end by our bigs. This team is different with Solomon getting significant minutes, and you never have to worry about the level of effort by him whereas Holden and Bowie are suspect at times. Would be nice to see Merrill show the same effort he did a few weeks back and get some more meaningful minutes alongside Young. We really need to have 2 bigs playing at a high level come March.

Iowa State should shoot better at home, knowing they won't be blinded by TCU's court.

I think this team is ready with some swagger.

ISU 88
TCU 72

Young doesn't have a great stat line but neither does Brodziansky.
Monte Morris does

Remembering that Ejim set the Big 12 scoring record against TCU I'm hoping that Prohm pulls Monte for good with quite a bit of time left on the clock. Monte detours to the press table to shake Eric Heft's hand as they share the school record for assists in a game.

Over shadowed by their rebounding advantage in Fort Worth was that Fisher absolutely schooled Monte, they are good but they needed both of these to happen to beat us at home, I don't see both happening again at Hilton.

Fisher is extremely aggressive but error prone. If the help defense is there, I've seen him do a lot of stupid things. If it's not, he'll eat you up.

TCU is better now than they've been since joining the Big 12 5 years ago (duh). While this is true, it doesn't ignore the fact that Dixon has done more with less. Yes, he has talented players like Jaylen Fisher, Brodziansky, and even Karviar Shepard who was a consensus top 100 recruit held over from the old regime.

However, the supporting cast is an average one comprised of the same type of players we've been used to seeing since their inception into the conference. A team that frequently plays 2 PG's, one being the talented Fisher, the ball seems to stick more in the hands of a guy I'd rather see with the ball (as a fan of an opposing team). Alex Robinson. Robinson, who looks exactly like Raphie from The League, has a loose handle yet seems to be the guy with the ball about 75℅of the time. Not sure why Dixon prefers to go with the less skilled of his 2 PG's so much.
JD Miller is your classic trash ball player, who at 6-8 235 would be a big on this Iowa State team, but for TCU almost never plays inside the 3 pt arc. He's got an ugly shot that somehow makes it down the hole from time to time. I call him a chucker.
Finally you gave Kenrich Williams, who has the ugliest haircut I've seen in quite awhile. This player is not overly skilled, but plays hard and is very annoying to watch your team play against. Reminds me a lot of Spangler from OU. Or even junior year Dustin Hogue.

The fact that Dixon has squeezed all that he can out of an average supporting cast, is the reason they are 17-9. More so I think than Brodziansky and Fisher. They win as a team, lose as a team, and I don't think it's as simple as shutting down one guy to beat them.

However, being that they are mostly average, and still a mostly young team, I think Hilton will be too much for them to withstand. Our guys are playing hot and I don't see a cold spell happening on a Saturday in Hilton. Not to mention that first time around we were not playing any post defense. The 6'6" Bowie was our only 'big' in that game (which he is not, truly). Since then, Holden has come back to life (sort of) and Young has emerged. I don't think we need those guys to do a lot tomorrow, but they need to try their best to stay out of foul trouble.

I've never wanted a win vs TCU so badly, it's a weird feeling. Thinking we expose them this time, we are a changed team since the first go around, and have also seen them unravel a bit down the stretch.

TCU's a really tricky match up so it will be interesting.

Need Monte to 'man' up and have an average game after getting punked by their PG last time. Burton too.

I'm hoping the meltdown is minimal if Young struggles a bit, which I think is realistic and likely. I'm also hoping Prohm lets him play it out as long as he's not in foul trouble.

I can't watch due to the channel but only something bad can happen so no biggie on that end.

Hoping ISU can pull it off and get some actual breathing room.

Yes, Fisher, the freshmen is really good, quick. At least we sure made him look that way. Hopefully Monte has a better game against him this time. Bradziansky needs to be at least neutralized, at least so he doesn't get so many easy putbacks on offensive rebounds.

I'm most worried about TCU making a focused effort to get Young in foul trouble. But if he brings half of what he brought Wednesday I feel good about it. Very tough matchup without his presence.

. Look for a big game from Morris.
This is what I'll be interested in watching, on both ends of the floor. Morris shot 4-14, and if I remember correctly, Fisher worked him pretty well a few times, and had 11 assists.

TCU as a team shot 57% so you know Prohm has challenged them this week.
