Just responding to RhoadHoused... and explaining the superstition... yes, the year before we made the Elite Eight... but this game prevents me from ever ever ever wanting a 2 seed. We only beat CC State by 10 the year before... no facing 15 seeds ever again.

Give me a two seed any-day. We have Hoiberg. Two seed and Hoiberg gets ISU to AT LEAST to the sweet 16.

I know man, the year before was "the other time". We went to the Elite 8 and I think we finished the year ranked #3 in the nation, right?

But if we're a 1 seed we don't face MSU in Michigan and not until at least Final 4 with 66% chance of not seeing them until championship.

I've cried in my beer enough times about that year. Everyone seems to forget that Cincinnati was a shoo-in for the national championship if Kenyon Martin hadn't broken his leg. Let's just be happy with what we got... an unforgettable season.

I was in middle school, no beers to cry in then so I'm a few years behind

I thought 15th or so is a good, accurate ranking for how good this team is, but the fact that this site bases their rankings on projected final records changes my tune a little bit, partially because I also think 13-5 sounds about right for conference play.

We absolutely should have been a 1 seed that year!!!

I know... and we would have been... had Jaquay Walls not hit that 40 footer at Colorado to send it into overtime.

We lost on February 19th to them, then won the rest of our games. Had we not dropped that single game, we are a one seed and don't face MSU until the final four at the EARLIEST.

*Edit to add....

That year, we were not ranked at all until we beat Kansas on Jan 29th. We had a record of 18-3 (6-1) and debuted in the rankings at #20. By the time we reached #14 we were 22-3 (10-1). Talk about disrespect. Heck, we're #14 NOW and no where near 22-3...

Didn't we lose to OK St in OT that year.

Yep. I was at ISU then, and the wound still feels fresh! I was channeling my inner Larry after that MSU game.
Still, i contend that if the situation was the exact same, but if we had "Kansas" on our jersey, we get the 1 seed. We won the Big 12 regular season and the Big 12 tourney. And had a great record.
