Some notes on tempo from yesterday's game:

ISU run plays: 52
ISU pass plays: 38
Total: 90
Possession time: 29:00

UoI run plays: 43
UoI pass plays: 29
Total: 72
Possession time: 31:00

Looks like the uptempo offense had a real impact. I'm not sure what our average time for each play has been in the past, but the fact that we ran 18 more plays in 2 fewer minutes than Iowa struck me as an interesting tidbit.

I believe that is the reason for the up tempo. The only issue becomes if the offense goes 3 and out. Then there is little time used and the other team could control the clock and the game. But when the offense is working, you can score in a hurry. With a good defense, it is possible to score a lot a points.

You have to factor in that overtime plays didn't count for the time of possession. So how ever many plays both teams ran in overtime need to be subtracted from the total to get an accurate number for the time of possession.

Having said that, we still ran many more plays in less time than Iowa! Love the new tempo!

I love the new tempo. By the time that the 4th quarter came around, it was pretty clear that Iowa's defense was gassed. Nothing was stopping that offense from scoring.

I loved watching Iowa's D scramble to get into position before we snapped the ball. Chaos and Panic.

Just getting to the line quickly, so the D can't substitute makes a big difference. Even if they stand there 10-15 seconds getting the play in, the D still can't sub.
Next step is a few quick snaps to pick up 5 yard penalties, could have had a couple of those in the 4th.
