The assault on tailgating

So................ your point is what, it is what it is

Way to focus in on one part of it....my point is that ISU's policy of making people pour out their beer before crossing the street, but allowing folks to crack a fresh one as soon as they get across seems just as asinine as some of the other policies around the country.

Clear enough for you?

sad thing is that i don't think that tailgating at isu is near what it was in the late 90's when the students were on the pavement. don't get me wrong-it's still a great atmosphere, just nowhere close to what it was.

i don't think i've ever poured a beer out or pounded one to cross the street fwiw. in fact i'm certain i've had drinks while crossing the street.

Ya its always been clear to me but obviously not for you. Who cares if you cant cross a 4 lane intesection and drink a beer..... When you get on the stadium side crack another one, who cares where is the problem???

I'm one that enjoys tailgating but wouldn't really be overly bothered if I never did it again.

yes i agree with you here, the only place you will get hasseled is on the corner of university and S. 16th, but if they make you pound it or dump not a big deal in my mind

Do you even understand what this thread is about?

Ive gotta agree with THH here. Its not a huge deal to just pound your drink, but it is a rather dumb rule.

There are a few people out there, but overall, ISU tailgating makes ISU football gameday. If we had crappy tailgating/no tailgating, there would be half as many people in the stadium.

And Minnesota's policy of breathalyzing students is beyond asinine. When are people just going to accept that most college students drink? They tried prohibition once. It failed miserably. They are biting the hand that feeds them, and they will end up alienating the students in the end. Either that, or you will see students smuggling in tons of booze and getting hammered inside the stadium.

So many different/possible responses to that, but I'll digress. Doesn't ISU have some idiotic policy that doesn't allow people to cross the street with an open container - but as soon as you get to the other side it's fair game?

Last game I went to a game at Trice, I parked at Vet Med, and crossing Elwood (or University, whatever) everyone who had an open beer either pounded it or poured it out.

It's a really stupid rule, but in the end it has almost ZERO effect on the quality of tailgating. And as others have said, it's only enforce right at the cross walks of 16th and Elwood. I crossed the street farther down 16th w/a drink in my hand twice last weekend and no one said a word.
