I've got to get this off my chest. This final bridge product is, in no way what was portrayed on the original design. I realize this happens often, but it's got to stop. I've got a degree in Architecture from Iowa State (and a Computer Science degree). I really enjoyed the 'proposed' bridge, but by comparison not so overjoyed on this design. That's just my opinion and I'm sure others will have contrasting ones as well. My point is that oftentimes the final product is a consequence of unexpected costs. And, there should be no excuse not to have a very detailed and accurate financial proposal for the original bridge. Project costs should be taught as a fundamental course in the Architecture curriculum and with today's technology should be very accurate (sans mother nature) to the actual construction costs. All that said, this bridge is still better than nothing.

You do realize that often what's depicted in "original concepts" are in reality unfeasible to build, or at least in may cases impractical because the type of engineering and/or construction it would take to make the original concept to life would be far too expensive.

I think it's more like you need to understand that an original concept is a vision or a dream - not what is what's going to be built in reality.

That bridge is engineering 101. I realize larger projects have a bigger delta, but that bridge should have been very straight forward. So, on this one I respectfully disagree with you. Now the rest of the vision, I'll be more understanding.

It’s a helluva lot harder for even experienced engineering and architecture firms to estimate construction costs in the current climate, particularly in the early stages of the project. Depends on the type of project but supply chain and construction labor issues are still a challenge.

You'd think this bridge was the Golden Gate bridge or the Brooklyn Bridge. But it's THE ISU FOOTBALL BRIDGE and we are proud of it. LOL.

I think it is fun that the fans are having fun with it. That's sort of what college sports is supposed to be about from our well known drinking ability of Busch Light to the Dilly Dilly saying a few years ago. It's all fun and keeps people entertained.

Tell me you don't have a clue about funding without saying you don't have a clue about funding.

Don’t GAF about the bridge but LOVE the exterior ramp on the NE side to get a quick halftime beer In the north lots.

My only complaint is it didn't really do much to alleviate pedestrian congestion at S-16th since a lot of people are still crossing there (the student section being moved into the south endzone probably increased this).

Though it'd probably help if they actually had some people directing traffic there before games.

We parked in grass lots just to use the bridge and loved it. So easy to get in stadium and the entrance to stadium there is nice and the scanners work well. My only issue was not the bridge itself but walking on that muddy gravel by the RV Village. Some RV spots were not really useable with big puddles on that gravel. Hoping they plan on improving that surface eventually. So nice not to have to fight the giant pickup trucks on way to stadium.

I would love some kind of improvement for the situation at 16th and University now. The car/pedestrian combo there especially when it is dark is dangerous.

Wait, they didn’t block people crossing at S 16th? I thought they would funnel people to the bridge regardless

Well obviously Bridge #2 will have to be built. Could we get some early renderings on this ASAP?!?!

That’s by the student lot and awful relocation of the student section. Maybe we can build the world’s largest span of monkey bars to go across the street. Or at least put some traffic cops there during peak times.
