I don't think his background is inherently bad for this position. I think lying on his resume should have been grounds for termination from candidacy. I really don't know enough about his vision or merit for the position to judge whether he is a good hire. My feeling, just based on his approval rating compared to the other candidates, is that some conspiracy is involved and his presidency will be rife with criticism and it will be difficulty for the university to progress with him in charge.

Why is he the guy you need? Just curious -- obviously the Regents are smart people who like him.

Hopefully being a marketing/branding guy he's going to put a renewed emphasis on athletics and bring the pain on ADs who perform sh*ttily.

I haven't followed the search that closely. Can you clue me in, or link me to the story?

Since the link only tangentially references it...from a KCRG article:

His curriculum vitae list his current position as managing principal for Executing Strategy LLC in Avon, Colo., although he explained — after The Gazette pointed out that an organization of that name isn't registered in Colorado — that he does private consulting under that name.

This whole thing is very weird and I think has a really good chance of ending badly. There are no heroes in this tragedy.....

After seeing the results of that poll, I can understand their frustration. I don't quite agree with the "siphoning" off money, but obviously I'm a little biased on that point.

The only inference one can make regarding that hire is that there are reasons unknown to the general public for making the hire they did. I don't think those reasons include most qualified...

Yeah, but Boston Market? Please tell me the CEO of Golden Corral was at least considered for the job.

Well, he was in Boston Market when they were exploding, got out before they imploded. Hopefully he can do some good things at Iowa, then they too can implode and be bought out by McDonald's for pennies on the dollar.

Don't know much about him or this story, but man was that Graduate Student article whiny, and I was once a graduate student at Iowa. So Iowa Alum Terry Brandstad is out to get them. Right.

The faculty in general at Iowa is very whiny. Regardless of how good or bad this man is in terms of his qualifications, the fact that he has only 2.7% support from the staff at Iowa means this is going to end badly. The Board of Regents has really sent a strong message to their university and it's not a positive one. Never seen anything like this.
