Iowa State needs two 6'10" big men who can crash the boards, handle the ball, and be deadly from the three point line. A versatile big man creates "options". The can open paint by drawing defenders outside. They can open the outside by collapsing the defense inside. Georges and Monte together were masters at that. One big man small man combo can beat a superior team. Two big man small man combos can shred it. Just ask North Carolina in the NCAA championship game last night what a "big man small man" can do to you.

"The winning play, dripping in symbolism, is named "Nova." It's run in every Villanova practice. It is their go-to with less than eight seconds remaining in a game. It is the play Scottie Reynolds scored on in 2009 to vault Villanova to the Final Four."

what you are describing is a five star basketball player. Iowa State doesn't get a lot of those.

2? We need 10. A couple that can handle the ball would be nice. Can you imagine a starting 5 of 6'10, 6'10, 6'10, 6'10, 6'10 with 5 guys off the bench, 6'10, 6'10, 6'10, 6'10, 6'10???

Now bear with me...what if we go all in on one 10' 6" man, rather than banking on two players at 6' 10"?

I think we need more 5'10" guys that can't shoot, can't handle the ball and are slow. Remember, 5'3" Paul Simon beat 6'8" Connie Hawkins because he stuck to what he did best, which was singing and songwriting.

Yeah, I mean why stop at 2. And why stop at 6'10" while we are at it. Why not just go out and grab a bunch of 7 footers who can handle the ball like a guard, have the size of Shaq, rebound with a fury, run the floor like McKay and shoot the three as well as anyone?

This topic has come up quite a bit lately and it blows me away that people think there are a bunch of these guys out there who just aren't getting their shot to play basketball. Does anyone really believe that ISU is not looking for this type of player or even worse, do people believe we are turning them away because they don't fit some style guideline ISU players have to fit into?

Villanova only has one contributor over 6-6.
