Sounds like this will be part of a series. Nothing earth shattering, but an interesting read.

I don't think the Wayne years are forgotten at all. Those first two teams of his were a lot of fun to watch, especially after the last couple of years of larry. Curtis and Will were awesome to watch.

Blalock could run down the floor dribbling faster than most could without the ball.

Stinson was a blast because he sought out contact instead of changing his shot to avoid contact.

The article is also a reminder of how awful BVD was. Promising assistant coach jobs before the head coach had been hired.

Interesting stuff. That whole situation was handled in the worst possible way by Bruce. Over the years, I've come to the conclusion that Larry probably had to go. But the coaching search was a cluster. A lot of people said no, before Wayne got the job. I wonder how serious he was about Wayne keeping his job no matter what...that would certainly be an issue with some head coaches.

I actually liked Wayne's NIT final 4 team the best. The NCAA tourney team was fun, but that was a bad, bad team until late January/early February. One of the top 5 worst moments in Hilton was leaving after that team lost to a bad Colorado team by quite a bit.

I'm convinced that the D1 scheduling thing played a fairly big part in Wayne getting fired.

Thankfully, we survived the dark days of Morgan and McDermott and came out on the other side with Fred. When we lose a game or two and everyone freaks out this year, remember where we were 5 short years ago.

Morgan wasn't a bad coach, but wasn't great either. Still think Coach McDermott was worse...

Morgan was an excellent recruiter. I always wonder what would have happened if Larry hadn't been caught and could have coached the 2004-2005 team with Stinson, Blalock, and Homan.

Wasnt Rahshon Clark also in that roster?

He coached street ball. Stinson and Blalock just did what they wanted while Clark dunked and Homan pounded away inside. He was a pretty terrible coach (though his Syracuse 3-2 defense was interesting to watch).

This. He was an excellent recruiter, and I think that's why he eventually was made head coach (after many turn downs).

It would have been interesting to see. Larry probably would have run some of them off, but I would have liked to have seen what would have happened.

There's absolutely nothing racist about that statement, and it's absolutely true. Wayne didn't have a whole lot of control.

We'll always have that NCAA win over Minnesota - the only one from 2000 till 2012. Wow.

Can't believe we replaced Wayne with McD. I suppose if McD hadn't been so awful! there'd be no Fred.

There is nothing good about this "article". It is a bland recap made by a student who didn't know much at the time. It glosses over everything. WM was hired as a last resort because the situation was such a debacle that nobody of relevance would come near the job. WM wasn't a horrible coach, that is solely reserved for GMac, he was just a floormat. We all know WM was famous for seeming completely disinterested while sitting on the bench and looked like he was daydreaming.
