Nope. I spent some time hitting the backroads when my dad died to reminisce, and I may do that again, but it’ll be solo. My mom moved shortly after so not much reason to go there now.

My parents moved away 15 years ago from where I grew up in NwIa. Havent been back since. I talk to the buddies I want to so no reason to go back. Pretty sure our class tried a 5 year reunion and I think 8 showed up. Only had 50 in my class anyway. Not sure their has been 1 since, next year will be 25 years.

This started as a discussion between my wife and I today. For those that ended up leaving, do you look forward to returning to your home town?

My wife likes going back for the town festival every year and reminiscing with old friends and running into people she hasn’t seen in forever.

I have zero interest in seeing anyone that I don’t still talk to, zero interest in school reunions, etc. I legitimately do not give a **** how anyone is doing 20 years after high school graduation.
It's kind of sad for me to go back to my hometown. Ever since they lost their school, the town has been going downhill. It never was what you would call a big town, but now its population has dipped down into the 400s, a loss of about 25 percent since I lived there. They are still valiantly trying to stay afloat. There are still two bars in town, a grocery store that also serves hot food and probably the largest bank in the state. Seriously, the building fills a whole city block and there are only four blocks in the business district to begin with. There are no gas stations anymore, except for a self serve, credit card only filling station at the elevator. They used to have four gas stations. I think the implement dealer is still in business, but that's about it for businesses. We used to have a cafe, a variety store, a hardware, a doctor's office, and a florist, but those are all gone, most of them swallowed up by that huge bank when they expanded it about 10 years ago.

Like a lot of people here I go back to see my parents. I have a core of 3 or 4 people I still care to stay in contact with. Haven't been to a reunion yet, not sure I'll ever bother. I was years from finding my best self when I graduated. Seems like the people who were their best self at that time get excited about the reunions. I'm not who they remember, so what's the point? I don't harbor any bitterness, I just formed much more meaningful relationships later in life.

I enjoy seeing the area and how it's changed. Still some old haunts I like to visit. It's fun showing my own family around there since none of them grew up in that area.

When we go back it's for like Easter or Christmas on my side. We end up going to church and that is the extent of the reminiscing. Both of my wife's parents are gone so we just go there once in a great while to the cemetery.

Haven't been to a reunion in over 30 years, I don't even think we had a 40th one. Out of 33 classmates, I think like about 1/4 of them still live in the area. Whenever we go home we have to pass through the town I went to school at. We drove by it once just to see it as our kids wanted to know where I went to school at.

I go home to visit family and don’t usually have much time for anything else. Sometimes I’ll catch up with a friend if they’re also in town or I have some free time.

Other than our 5 year class reunion I’ve been the one to plan all others & if I didn’t plan one, we didn’t have one. Last year was our 40th and I planned a combined reunion for all 80s graduates. Told my husband that I’m done with that stuff-someone else can do it now.

I have attended many reunions. Our class of 129 (I think) is usually well represented. Maybe 40 to 50 attend our reunions. I always think it is surprising how different everyone turns out when we all came from the same schooling and environment in a small town. In 2nd and 3rd grade, we all seemed so much the same. But I still enjoy visiting with my classmates, even if all we have in common is where we grew up.

If reunions were like Zach and Miri's, I'd go back and do the Zach role.

I grew up in a small town in SW Iowa and drive through occasionally when going to Omaha to visit family. Sad how nearly all the businesses are gone and main street is nearly a ghost town and nearly everone is old. Not sure my class of 32 have ever had a reunion. My wife is from Newton and they have a reunion every 5 years and we always go and have a great time as she remains close with several classmates.

western iowa here. same story.

My quote to the SO the last time I drove through my hometown "Mos Eisley spaceport. You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy. We must be cautious."

Went back for my 20th reunion and I think only 3 people that live in or near town were there. Everyone else was from out of town. 30th reunion would be this year, but no one wants to try to organize it.

Parents are still there, so at least a few times a year we get back. I can't say I look forward to it, but don't really dread it either. Interesting to see how the town and people have changed, but don't really get out and about too much. I'd say about half my class moved away (and pretty typically for the classes near me), so I'll occasionally run into someone I know. Did the first few reunions. We lost the 25 year to Covid. 30 is next year. If something good is planned, I'll go, but we'll see.

I still have some friends back home farming so I'll go back and visit them. We'll hit the bar up and see some folks that it's good to see how they're doing. Usually a fun time but I like to think I made good connections with a lot of people. It's a pretty good time usually!

I kinda like going back once in a while, see the places I ran around, just kind of relive memories. The city park, the baseball diamond, high school (dad taught there for decades). Places I took the kids when they visited gma and gpa. And also see the changes. Have a handful of friends still there I would talk to.

But don't go back often now, since the folks moved 15 years ago. Only an hour away, maybe I'll ride up there this weekend...

My wife returns to the hometown for meetings of the charity she belongs and something called the “Slumber Party” a group of lifelong friends that go out to dinner to catch up.

My health prevents my returning, as I want to see how the school district is spending Covid Money and other government money on constructing new additions in a district with a flat, student enrollment.

I miss eating lunch, sitting in my car, watching the Mississippi River flow by. My post retirement hobby took place in a building along the riverfront.
