The money?????????????

well, pardon me cycloneworld. you did emphasize the facilities when saying "FAR superior facilities than we do." I'm just clarifying that I wouldn't count CU as another program having a much better infrastructure than ISU has. I don't think NU was ranked in november of '04 when they went 5-6 that season. They were ranked in '02 when they came into JTS, but by Nebraska standards, they were definitately on the decline from the juggernaut they were in the decades prior. Of course the Iowa victories are great, with the '98 and '02 wins being perhaps the biggest ever, but c'mon.... in '99 and '00 during Ferentz's first 2 years, Iowa was terrible.

Let me get this straight...

We hammer D-Mac for his over-all losing record, which includes the losses when he just took over the program and was sifting through the mess.

Yet we won't give full credit for certain wins over Iowa, Nebraska and Texas A&M?

Seems a bit hypocritical to me...

No problem frontrange, you are pardoned.

Doesn't winning games help to generate revenue? The model that some of you want us to follow is not logical. In all competitive endeavors money follows success.

I agree that winning generates more revenue, but take a step back......in order to WIN, you have to have the coaches, players & facilities! Winning not only brings in more revenue, but makes recruiting easier. Everybody loves a 'winner'. But if you don't always win, you have to sell, facilities, football family, Big 12 conference, etc. They are all inter-related. Pollard understands this.

I think we need better chefs so our teams can eat better during the week and have more energy during the game. they would cook for the coaches too, b/c dmac must get tired during the game from all the 1st half clapping he does. This would really be a turning point for our program.

God I wish we had a coach who didn't show his emotion during the game!

OH WAIT! We had that in Wayne Morgan and he got absolutely CRUCIFIED for it....some people are never content...

Kind of off subject, but you thought WM showed emotion? I always remembered him just standing there in his suit looking like he was trying to remember what he was gonna say. And then hugging CS when he came out b/c he didn't draw the foul. (This is a question not an attack.)
I love the P.S.

Actually I said that WM DIDNT show emotion. And that pissed people off. And I always remember when Curtis hugged WM because he knew that Wayne didn't know what he was doing and felt sorry for him...

WM hug comment...Hilarious. I literally just choked on my Sunkist of all things( not the carrot). I didn't realize we weren't allowed to make jokes on this site anymore. So how about instead of spending all this money on coaches and facilities we spend it on things like, I don't know, lowering the price of tuition/housing, more scholarships for students, research etc. But that would all be wasted money b/c our team doesn't beat Iowa. Does anyone else think that 1.1 million is more than anyone should make without robbing someone. I am not against the coach making a good living but seriously 1.1 million? If I make that much money in 10 years I would be so happy I would carry on a conversation with the discombob of old.
Sorry for rambling.
Please everyone attack my stand at will all you message board hereos.

I agree but that's just me being jealous more than anything. :wink0st:

But seriously, I always thought that guys like MJ, Shaq, Bonds, etc. make waaaaay to much money but if you think about how much money they bring in for team owners, clothing/shoe companies, etc. its just a fraction of that.

Ok, back to the jokes. I'm tired of being so serious...

Wayne Morgan was just a terrible coach. WM had IMO some of the more talented teams ISU has ever had since the Elite 8 team and did a horrible job of developing and coaching the talent he brought in. One of my buddies saw him shopping at the Ames Hy-Vee one Saturday morning before a football game this fall so its obvious WM was not as good of a coach that he thinks he is since he's still unemployed as far as I know. The basketball program was going nowhere under his leadership and Hilton was one sad place to be at the end of last season. If everyone was so down on Mac and the football program I don't think we'd be have record season ticket sales and pretty good attendance thus far through the season. There are some VERY loyal and generous boosters and groups that are big Coach Mac supporters that I think would not be happy to see him go unless it was merited and at this point I think it would be a big mistake financially to cut Mac loose and risk loosing support from some of those boosters.

WM had no fire unless his boy Curtis got a call against him, Mac is always fired up on the sidelines and many times I have seen him get on players coming off the field that made a costly mistake so at least you know he cares about the job he's doing and is not settling for "oh well, we'll get em next time" kind of crap we had to hear from WM.

I would love to be serious if we could talk about the texas game on Sat. I thought ISU actually had a chance to win before the PP (Parker Penalty). They were running the ball, they were throwing the ball. Neither at will, but both effectively. The defense actually stopped texas on 3&13 and forced a punt but then the pp gave them the ball back. It would have been a long shot but I think it had the potential to be a great game. What does everyone else think?

I agree with you Tim. What is frustrating is the offense has been moving the ball well but not scoring. That PP was huge because we get the ball back in a 16-14 game right before half time and have a chance to drive the field and take a lead. They wound up scoring on the drive instead and the momentum took a big swing from there. I'm not saying we win that game but I like our chances better had we not had the careless penalty.

We are probably going to get yelled er, typed at for changing the subject of this thread, but the game should be talked about. The Iowa game was talked about until thursday and there was even a thread this week about Iowa. That is why everyone says it is our superbowl, it is all we talk about. the texas game could have been amazing. We go down 16-0 in 6 minutes and then fight back still in the first half. That is awesome. Nobody wants to talk about it though.

For those that still care about money, here's a good stat:

ISU spent $7.2 million last year to get 7 wins, which means they spend just over $1 million per win. ISU had the best ratio of wins/expense in the Big 12. Nebraska spent $11.2 million and Texas Tech spent $17.8 million last year and both averaged just under $2.25 million per win. (All stats taken from http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/columns/story?columnist=forde_pat&id=2573962)

Maybe the fact that ISU is winning games at a cheap rate will convince a few people that we're actually overachieving based on our budget.

Timc and travman- I could definitely feel ISU starting to gain momentum when making the game 16-14 and I think the defense finally adapted a bit to Texas' speed, and they got UT in a 3rd and 10 prior to the PP. Assuming we got the ball in decent field position, we very easily could have taken the lead before the half whether it be a TD or FG. Meyer was making some good throws, I loved toe one to Nikel down the sideline, but I can't remember if that was in the 2nd or 3rd qtr. But anywho, the PP was the momentum killer of the game as it got the crowd back into it and gave UT great field position.
One thing, UT players seemed to show more emotion on the field than the ISU players... esp. when their one player was carted off the field. Prior to the next play, UT's D-lineman were going nuts getting the crowd pumped up, no one probably saw this on TV, but at that point, I knew we were doomed as the 88k+ started roaring when Bret went under center.
