To get you in the proper mood, following please find a youtube video of a fairly nondescript (one would surmise) game. As way of background, this is a Big East Quarterfinal match between an underperforming team and a heavily favored, physical team. Mind you, this is not even a semi-final tournament game, much less a championship one. A run of the mill, nondescript tourney game. Just one among several played that day at that arena.

Except...it's played in New York. In Manhattan. In midtown. And it's UCONN. In their house.

Just got the chills...because I remember how nervous I was the yellow flag would be thrown on that play as the new rule was in place and I figured we'd be the first to get the "premature celebration" flag.

Also, that game in general...went from a dumpster fire to a "crown Steele king of Ames" in about an hour. That was also the game where Lenz had a killer sideline catch Rhoads has said was one of the best he's ever seen.
If I remember correctly, three of Jantz's first four throws were interceptions...

Classic.

On second thought, it is kind of lame to post something like this. Especially against a clean school like Iowa State. By clean, what I mean is that there is no real animosity between the schools and their fanbases (notwithstanding some knuckleheads and your mascot). In fact, you get nothing but well-deserved praise from UCONN fans. You have a disciplined, high scoring team with a coach that is universally regarded as one of the best x and o's guys in the country.

So for being brash, kind of dumb of me. Many of you know UConn's history, APR, Calhoun, realignment, ESPN. We put players in real classes with real grades and don't lie on the self-reported APR. Hi, UNC. Calhoun gets dinged because of too many texts sent (since rescinded). 30 year career. Yet he's a cheater and dirty. Duke jewelry. Cash to Maggette. Coack K is a saint. Realignment? Nothing needs to be said. To say that UCONN has had a chip on their shoulder (and its fans) does a disservice to mica. UCONN has a boulder on their shoulder.

I guess my post was a reaction to those who say UCONN will have the least amount of fans on Friday night, and certainly wasn't meant as anything more than good-natured fun.

Let's give the fans of both schools the game that they deserve! Good luck Cyclones!

Should have opened with that! Seriously though, im looking forward to this game. UCONN matches up with us pretty well on paper, and the duel between Kane and Bazz will be one of the highlights of the tourney. Most of the UCONN fans on this board have been pretty classy or the most part, I like the friendly banter.

Can't say I wish you much luck, but I certainly never thought UConn would be short on fans. Here's to another Windmill!

You're the second UCONN fan that has said this, but I havn't actually seen any Iowa State fans post that. Pretty much everything I have seen states that UCONN will have by far the most fans there.

Hmm. You have a loud crowd for a tournament game played close to home. Of course.

This is just UConn's version of what we would post about Hilton South if the game were held in Kansas City. It isn't like we have never played in a hostile environment before. The Big 12 game against KU was about 60/30/10 KU/ISU/other, except that our 30 matched their 60 for the most part.

I doubt if UConn will get 60% of MSG because of the other teams playing. However, even if they get 50%, we will get the benefit of much of the non-ISU in the other 50%.

I doubt if any team has ever mobilized more fans on one day's notice than we did for the Big 12 finals. At least 10,000 bought tickets through scalpers on the day of the game. I don't expect to see a repeat of this for MSG, but I wouldn't underestimate us.

Calhoun is a walking *******. Could be Bob Knight's long, lost brother.

It's kind of offensive to suggest that a college basketball fan hasn't seen the Kemba highlights from 2011.

True. But without that narrative my dramatic build up would have been not-so-dramatic!

For those of you lucky enough to attend the game, the atmosphere at MSG is just so different than the rest of the country. I've seen UCONN play in the NCAA tournament in tons of arenas- domes (minn, st. pete, houston), in hostile territory (Anaheim with AZ and I believe we will win this game SDSU), greensboro/UNC, and in arenas that completely turned on UCONN (DC/George Mason). The arenas get loud, some louder than MSG.

But none compares to playing a game in the center of the world. It is electric.

And realistically, the Garden seats 19,000 for NCAA hoops, a 1/4 of which is doled out to the schools. Another 1/4 reserved for corporates. UVA and MSU fans will be rooting for you. Add the swiss fans that will choose during the course of the game, it'll be rocking and rolling for both sides.

I'm curious what makes you say that? I was thinking they'd be more on UConn's side.

I went to MSG in 2004 for the NIT semi's. I did not get a good impression from that place. I thought it was kind of a dump actually.

People overrate how loudly another fanbase will root for one team vs another when their team is playing. It will be pretty much completely irrelevant.

Calhoun is a walking *******. Could be Bob Knight's long, lost brother.

No doubt he is a love him or hate him guy. "Get off of my lawn!" But maybe the cynic in me realizes that much like politicians, being a high profile NCAA coach is peopled by a certain kind of person. And that person more often than not is not going to be found walking the streets of Calcutta. The new normal, moral relativism, whatever cute nomenclature to describe playing in a billion dollar industry.

I think Knight just has an angry personality. Calhoun? Not angry, just a competitive, out to prove the world wrong kind. Not a dime back, instead of a chair fling.

Two serious questions....

Which team is better:
2012 ISU or 2014 ISU without Niang

Which team is better:
2012 UConn or 2014 UConn
