Completely agree, I think that's why my views are so different than everyone else's, I wasn't really there for the McDermott years (since we were so bad that I couldn't have cared less about the basketball team) and I sure as hell don't remember the Fizer or Hoiberg years.

Here's my advice. Don't be critical just to be a hard ***. If you can't remember to a certain point, use evidence and statistics to gain context and perspective. The younger you are the less you can rely on that stuff and the more too need use facts and statistics vs articles based only on your opinions and experiences

Go find writers and look at their style. Look at Travis Hines or Brent Blum for a local guy. I'm not sure who is the best nationally.

Ding, ding, ding...correct usage of "couldn't have cared less".

Journalism starts with fundamentals. There are a few guys here who could care less.

Agreed and this type of **** is why we deserve the Hoiberg to the Bulls saga coming this Summer.

I know. We all better pray to whatever we think would be most effective that hoiberg is still happy.

The biggest problem I see with this type of "analysis" is it always puts the disgruntled fan's personal happiness and satisfaction as the basis for success. When you realize that Iowa State basketball isn't about you as an individual, it's much more enjoyable. That doesn't mean you won't get frustrated or angry. It just ensures that you enjoy the wins, enjoy the three hours spent at Hilton and don't feel the need to lash out emotionally minutes after a loss.

Celebrate the wins. Find a hobby after the losses.

Think Thibs is out after this year? Wouldn't surprise me, lot of smoke around that.

Short of winning the East it sure feels like he's gone. His sniping at management and players has really ratcheted up the last couple of weeks.

Thanks guys, I need discussion of Fred to the Bulls like I need a hole in my head.

Sorry... I figured the thread titled "The Painful Cyclone Realization" needed something in it that that would actually be painful.

Farminclone usually carries a level head (I've seen his posts on KU's board). I would suggest an age notation beside people's avatar. This way when us fans, other team's fans come to the board, there's an initial clue as to what they are dealing with when posting.

I don't have a problem with people knowing my age or gender, but past experiences tell me that the majority of posters on a given sports forum are generally of an age range and gender that does not define me...and if they don't read my posts before knowing who I am, they can be very dismissive.

It might help to have an idea of the perspective of the poster, I suppose...but how many 20 & 30 somethings spend much time listening to the opinions of a teen-ager?

I know that we're having a great season, mostly better than last year, but this roller coaster play is nothing like we've seen since Hoiberg got here

We lost 3 in-a-row and 2 in-a-row in conference play last year. This year, we haven't lost more than one game sequentially. So, it the lows were longer last year than they have been this year.

Here's an interesting site with the team's stats, including from previous years. It's sometimes helpful to look at actual facts as they don't always support a person's subjective perceptions of team/players.

I posted this screen grab from kenpom.com in a thread yesterday, but it's worth showing again. This team is almost identical from a statistical perspective to the team from last year:

This year on offense we shoot a bit better on 2pters but turn the ball over a bit more. Otherwise the percentages are exactly the same.

Defensively we block a few more shots, force a few more turnovers and keep our opponents off the line much better.

Best post so far. People can ***** and moan at each other and meltdown after every road loss...but NO ONE will respond to someone who actually posts facts or statistics?

This team is statistically almost identical and has one more Big 12 conference win than we did at this point last year. I am glad people care enough to want us to be EVEN better (sure beats all the awful football fan apathy around here.) But seriously stop all this pouting. We have a really, really good team that could potentially beat anyone if some things go our way. Stop acting like since we aren't Kentucky and 24-0 that the sky is falling. Some of you younger folks really need to go back and watch full game replays of the McDermott and Morgan years, it will really help you put things into perspective about how great of a situation our program is in right now.

It was more of a piece to say look how good we had it last season with Niang, Kane, and Ejim and how little drama we faced

...so being close to 3 non-conference losses (UNI, Iowa, BYU), losing 3 games in a row, going 3-6 on the road, basically getting handled 2/3 times vs. KU, and coming *this* close to riding a 3 game losing streak into the Big 12 tourney weren't drama?
