UT doesn't really have a stranglehold on the top TX recruits. Stoops is already pulling plenty of them to OU. A&M is third in-line for TX recruits behind UT and OU. Moving to the SEC in itself isn't going to change that.

Stoops is playing 4 teams from Texas every year. None of the SEC schools can make that claim. ATM to the SEC opens the state to SEC recruiting and Texas doesn't want that. The last thing either UT or ATM want is to open the state to recruiting from both Pac 10 and SEC schools. I think you will see them both in the Big 12 or both in the Pac 10.

Big 12 makes the most sense from a recruiting perspective for both.

Can someone explain to me why travel in a Pac 16 would be such a monster for any of the members? The way I'm looking at it, it shortens travel for everyone.

How, you ask? They would have two 8 team divisions. They would never have to play the other division until the conference title game, which could be centrally located.

This maybe true for football, but what about all the other sports. If there are no games between divisions in any sports , then that's not really much of a conference, more of an alliance.

UT has been getting their top targets for the last 5-10 years. OU gets top recruits from Texas as well because there are so many. Make no mistake, UT gets ther pick and aTm to SEC would jepordize that in the future. UT understands the ramifications. aTm played their hand well! If I were aTm, I would bolt to the SEC. Political pressures will most likely keep them in the B12 if the remaining members elect to stay.
